Sounds like an abundance of people willing to throw in a few bucks and people able to program. Put me in the funding category...

Default Syncing with sunbird and thunderbird

I'm also interested in syncing with Mozilla software instead of that MS crap! I'll be happy to pay some money for development.

On the other hand remains the fact that I myself am a fairly decent C++ developer but with not that much time available. Damn shame.

Default Please - this would be wonderful!

I've just left MS Outlook - and glad for it! Thunderbird is fantastic and all I would like to be able to do is sync my contacts to the BB. Hope someone is working on this presently

Default Thunderbird and Blackberry

Has there been any new developments in syncing with Thunderbird since then?

I would still love to dump outlook for Thunderbird.

Thanks

For open source software, it seems Mozilla doesn't get much love as far as development. Perhaps because there's more money to be made fixing the M$ crap?

Just got a 7100, haven't loaded any apps yet, looking to not pollute it too much before I figure out what's best for me.

I use T-bird, Sunbird and Firefox.

Talking Blackberry Sync with Thunderbird :D

Yesss! Yes I know how to do it! ^.^

I have been searching and SEARCHING for a way to do it, and it's not the most smoothest method, but it gets it done in less than 5 mins :D

This is just a quick outline, for details such as where I downloaded it all from, etc, please email me!

You need to have:
- Microsoft Outlook
- A Schedule World account and add on for Thunderbird.
Schedule World is an online server, I really don't get how it works, but it just 'works' so I'd go with it
- The Funambol add-on for Microsoft Outlook
- And of course, Thunderbird and a Blackberry!

What happens, once everything is set up, it goes like this:
("Entries" include: Address book, memo pad, calendar, tasks..etc.)

Entries in Thunderbird are sync'd to Schedule World.
Entries in Schedule World are sync'd to Outlook.
Entries in Outlook are finally sync'd to Blackberry via the Desktop manager

And vice versa!!!!!

If this is what you're looking for, do email me on [email address]

Only prob I've had with this is duplicate entries, grrr.

Btw to my knowledge all of this is freeware, etc, and I don't think it has anything to do with mozilla :S

So, let me see if I have this right, currently.

THERE IS NO SOFTWARE THAT SYNCS A BLACKBERRY FULLY AND DIRECTLY WITH ANYTHING??????

That is, not without using any of the previously mentioned series of random accounts and programs.

I think if I worked at RIM my head would probably explode if I heard about this. This Cannot be true, I think maybe i am not fully understanding something.

please respond and someone tell me I am overlooking something very basic. Please, so MY head doesn't explode.

edit, realized it syncs with outlook fully with only minor issues, well, who the hell wants to use that crappy program, ever?

Default Sync with Thunderbird

Just to keep this thread beat bleating, I am not much of a techie but am a big fan of both Thunderbird and Blackberry, and would certainly like to see a sync. My guess is that Blackberry has a deal with Outlook in which they agreed not to develop and market sync's with Outlook competitors, but that in fact Blackberry would be pleased if people could develop a sync on their own... so it's probably up to the users.

An earlier item in this thread (from 2004) said Sunbird was still too full of bugs. I'm thinking about putting Sunbird on a server, and guessing that it has improved significantly since time of that post. Any views on that, I would be glad to know....

Default Lightning Much better now

Lighting add on for Thunderbird (basically modified Sunbird) is much better than it was even a year ago... So far no bugs but I don't have it on a server! Never tried the Sunbird stand alone app

Waiting for a direct sync option between Thunderbird and Blackberry... I tried Schedule world and had way too many issues with duplicate contacts!!

I, too, eagerly await a relationship between DM and Thunderbird/Lightning... Hopefully, BB R&D is listening...

I just ditched Outlook completely for Thunderbird/Lightning.

(Wow, what a hassle to get switched over. I'm glad I'll *never* have to do that again)

Any new developments in syncing Blackberries directly with Thunderbird/Lightning. The two areas I need are my contacts and calender. Don't need mail...

I can confirm that this method works, I got all my calender/address book/etc. data off my Palm Treo 750 into Sunbird/Thunderbird, then I used the ScheduleWorld Thunderbird add-on to synch my data with that site, and afterwards synched Funambol with Outlook. The last step, synching Outlook with the BlackBerry is a piece of cake with the Desktop Manager.

Don't look for any other method, this works! (tho take some time downloading/installing/configuring everything, took me half a work day).
