Default Password Protect your Pearl? Security concerns.

Please Login to Remove!

Being new to the smartphone/Blackberry market, I've been worrying lately about security issues. If I were to misplace or lose my phone someone would have easy access to all of my personal emails and perhaps more. Conversely, I love being able to easily peruse my email with a few simple clicks.

Do you guys password protect your Pearl and/or emails? Is there some simple feature that I'm not aware of that will ease my concerns? Or are these just the inherent risks we take by using a blackberry?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have it password-protect everytime you access email? Every time you turn your phone on? Every time it goes out of standby mode?

This question is to all you Pearl users as well. What do you find works best for you?

Thanks.

Keep my BB locked all the time. I have even set up the left side convinience key as a short cut to the lock.
Now I am in the habit of hitting that key everytime I set my BB down, or holster it.
Plain and simple....It's always locked.....

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 8100 Pearl: BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Yes, lock 'em up!

A few more keystrokes are worth it. You have to at least hit one to wake up the screen anyway. Also, incoming calls can be answered while locked. (Dunno about PTT)

Hi, anybody know if would be possible enter lock code only to make a calls? I've got a lot of e-mails and don't want every time to enter lock code just to read them but really want to keep the pear as phone locked all the time.

If you password protect your device make sure you perform regular backups. If you, or someone else, enters your password incorrectly 10 times all the data will be erased.

Hey everyone!
How do you set the 8100c so you have to put a password when you turn the phone on? Thanks!

I was trying to password protect only the messages and media on my pearl but couldn't figure out. Is there a way that you dont password protect the whole device and only enable the passwords on certain fields like messages, media, calendar etc. ?

I have mine set to autolock after 10 mins of inactivity. I don't mind entering the password everytime.

I don't think you can just lock messages and media.

I am glad that I am not the only one to change the left button (don't use the PTT) to lock the device.

I lock mine all the time. It is definitely worth it if lost. if I forget to push the button, it will lock after 15 minutes of non-use.

When setting the lock, there is an option "allow outgoing phone calls while locked", or something like that. Therefore, you can receive and send calls while locked. In effect, you are only locking media and emails.

I have two noisy kids, concern they might randomly use the 10 times I have to unlock the BB. would this really be a concern, I want to have lock, but if they play with, and believe me theres no way to "hide" it from them, this would concern me.
