Default East Asian Language Version

Download the 4.6.0.190 (EastAsia) version, from the Singapore Telecom site:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3314DF2B3CB9CE

Note - it is the SECOND option on the Blackberry 9000 page from Singapore. The first one is Multilanguage like AVEA. You need the second one (EastAsia), that looks like this:

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.331 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.6.0.331
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.6.0.190
Software Platform: 4.0.0.172
File name: 9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel331_PL4.0.0.172_A4.6.0.1 90_Singtel.exe
File size: 95.34MB

Her is the way I changed it on my AT&T Bold, don't know if other vendor are different.

1. Select Settings.
2. Select Advanced Options.
3. Scroll and Select SIM Card
4. Press Menu
5. Select Enable Security
(Default PIN "1111" Keep in mind that if you enter incorrect PIN 3 (three)time SIM will lock requiring PUK Code)
6. Enter PIN Code - "1111" Press Enter
7. Screen will display "Security is Enabled"

Now when you power the unit it will ask "Enter PIN Code (3 left)
If correct code is entered it will display "Code Accepted".

To Change PIN Code.
1. Select Settings.
2. Select Advanced Options.
3. Scroll and Select SIM Card.
4. Press Menu
5. Select "Change PIN Code".
6. Enter Current or Default PIN - "1111" and Press Enter
7. Enter New PIN Code and Press Enter
8. Verify New PIN Code and Press Enter
9. Screen will display "PIN Changed"

Hope this helps. Once again if the default PIN I've listed does not work on the first attempt, call your provider to make sure what the default PIN is and while your at it get the PUK from them just in case. Good Luck.

I updated yesterday to 190 - today towards the end of the day I had about 10 'white screen of death' lockups with the little reset message in the middle.

I removed some applications such as google maps, etc, but doubt that was causing the lockups - did notice something funny after a reboot - it was having trouble locking onto 3G - I went to network settings selected 3G only waited for it to lock on, and then set back to 3G & 2G. No more reset... keeping my fingers crossed but this seems to definitely indicate some issues with this release.

Previously I had 168 and it was stable for about a month without any lockups or strange issues.

But, sigh..., that's what I do.

When i go to "About" in my device's Options, I still see my old version - v.4.6.0.92
I'm with KPN in the Netherlands btw.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Hi there,,

I am also with KPN and just succesfully uploaded the new OS .190

Instead of updating it using DM, I used Loader.exe from the Program files folder after you install the new OS on your computer.

Good luck!

Second full day on OS 190 - Battery is lasting well - 8pm now from 7am this morning off the charger - it's at 75%

Also no reboots today - if it continues being stable I'll start putting some applications back on and see what happens. Currently I'm only keeping Viggo on.

My flight landed, I got home and .190 is history for me....

Sure I have 3rd party apps installed, because I need / use them, I need my BB and I don't have time to install then test, install another then test, install another then test and...............

.190 was slow to boot for me, I had to remove everything from my media card then remove the .dat files and then reload it all to fix the "Scanning" bug, I got all sorts of "uncaught exceptions" that I never got with .185 so I reverted back.... Ahhhh.....

YMMV, so good luck with it.

Funny how it works for some and not other's huh?

I'd like to hear what you have installed if it is working for you and what you have installed if it isn't working for you....

For me .190 was a disaster, but here are the 3rd party apps I have:

- Viigo
- ATT Navigator
- RobLock 2.0
- BeeJive IM
- Fly Cast
- Docs to Go Premium
- Google Maps
- Ascendo Data Vault
- I Took This On My Phone
- Vlingo
- Pocket HP 12C

Hi dejazzy,

I keep on reading reports of this update not doing so well.

What is your experience so far? Do you have a network/sim locked device?

Cheers!

Agreed, For most people I would suggest to excersise extreme caution with this update. I have some time to experiment now as I'm on holidays, but for most people that are interested in having a working Bold... read carefully.

I have no experience with 185 but 168 was really stable for me and that's the one that I am currently recommending to my friends.

Thumbs up Excellent

I have the 9000 from ATT with the original 4.6.0.167, and whenever I would insert my 8gb microsd loaded with music and pics the whole phone would slow down and have 1 to 2 second delays in scrolling and typing. When I went into the media browser, it would scan the microsd card for about 45 seconds, then I could browse my music and listen to it. If I ejected the card the overall usage would resume normal speed.

I followed the 1st posted instructions to update to the 4.6.0.190 and it only took 10 min. Now it is lightning quick and when I go to my media all the songs have been found and there is no "scanning..." message. My camera seems to start faster, although I haven't noticed a speed increase in thumbnail load times for my pics.

I had to get into our BES server and resend my activation password and do an enterprise activation. After that I was back in business.

Everything is much faster. Haven't had 1 crash or error yet. I also see blackberry maps which I don't think I had before the update.

Here is my custom stuff that all seems to be working again.

My "com_plazmic_theme_marco2" works perfectly.

Did this upgrade last night. So far, so good. Started with .167 out of the box, of course, then shortly after moved to .185 and rocked that for oh three weeks I'd say. Figured I'd give this one a try.
The only weird thing I noticed was that two of my Profile settings didn't migrate to the new OS. LOL. Just two of my e-mail accounts were back to the default settings. I thought it was kind of funny and odd. Anyway we'll see how the battery goes on the first full charge after this upgrade.

I upgraded from .167 to .190 and was getting a bunch of error messages. So I wiped the device and loaded .190 - I havent had an issue since and it has worked great!

You should not need to wipe the device before an OS upgrade.

Why do you think that you do?

Other than that seems to be no difference to .185 however it's only been a few hours.

Ratnamg - how do you edit the .alx file to unlock the additional two themes? Thanks in advance....

. . .Just upgraded to .190 today and also lost all my picture thumbnails! Very frustrating. . .I also lose my custom picture I saved for my wallpaper each time I sync!! Any ideas how to stop that from happening?

One last thing. . .I use a 3rd party app called Splash ID. All my info was fine in .167 but when I went to .190 I lost the info and can't seem to retrieve it!

. . .a constant learning process for sure!

Best, Mike

Is there a difference between doing a BB OS upgrade vs. wiping your device before installing the new BB OS?
