Default General tips and tricks?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everyone,

I'm faced with having to present a session this week for 'tips and tricks' on the Blackberry.

I love the thing but I honestly can't think of 5-10 things that could help people use their BB's in a more productive or efficient manner.

Mostly looking for ideas and not full on instructions as I can come up with those.

Anything at all, weather it's for e-mail or calendaring. Would anyone say that deleting previous messages after a certain period of time is a good tip? Some people here have literally never deleted previous items and they have e-mails on the device going back by 6-12 months.

Thanks in advance for any help

Follow the link in Knotty's post.

There are a lot of tips. Using shortcut keys, like M to open Messages, R to open Alarm Clock, etc.

Using shortcut keys when in applications like Messages, U to go to the next Unread, T to go to the top, B to go to the bottom, R to reply, F to forward, L to reply to all, etc.

Some that I would add are:

Battery pull
clear the event log
doing a frequent backup of the device
how many applications are open, how to proper close them to obtain max battery life
try not to let the device battery get less then 20%
just to name a few

along with the amount of time to keep messages you can do that with the Calender, SMS and email as well should help with memory on the BB

Another tip I give all of my users is that if they have a password, and the device is encrypted and the password doesn't seem to work,( as it has a bazillion times in the past) do a battery reset...and ideally do it before the 9th attempt ...my opinion is that the processor get hung up and doesn't interpret keystrokes properly. Also, not sure if this is in the FAQ list, but to do a 3 way call you dial the first one, then dial another one, hit the green send button twice and it brings everyone together..I use 3 way calls all the time , doing support etc...good luck

I was going to suggest Stinsonddog's tips as well. Shortcuts and other little tips/tricks are a huge part of using a BlackBerry efficiently and more enjoyably.

Can you create a fake BBM Pin# ?
Is there any way to tell if BBM Pin # is valid or not?

PIN's are unique to each BlackBerry. You can't create a fake one. I haven't heard of any way to check them online.

there are some network tools that you can send out a PIN test but that is about it, it only sends a PIN message to the intended BB device (via PIN#) and it contains a confirmation number. mainly for testing data communication between the RIM network and the BB. but that is it other then that as far as I am aware there is only BB to BB no faking or spoofing a PIN#

One of the best tips you can give anyone is to join this forum! There is so much information here, and in searchable form, it's impossible to list it all. And if the answer isn't already here some of the best troubleshooters will hunt for it.
