Default New OS for 8830

Please Login to Remove!

I received E Mail this morning from RIM with link to upgrade my OS. Since VZW has not posted an update, I am concerned about using the RIM site. Does anyone know the correct answer?

There's the most recent OS for your device. You can load the OS from any carrier as long as it is for your specific model. All the OS's come from RIM. There's no need to worry. Follow the steps in that link and you should be fine.

I have the 8830, does the new OS have any significant upgrades? I am happy right now, but would upgrade if it meant better functionality....
Thanks

I'm slightly confused--has Verizon released an official software update for the 8830? I just checked on their website, and there doesn't seem to be a new version to download? Can anyone clarify this/provide a link to the Verizon download if it exists? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

OS 4.5 does have some significant features. It includes HTML email, Docs to Go, YouTube support, to name a few.

I am not sure if Verizon released an update or not. However, other carriers have. You can load any carrier's release of the OS. All of the OS's come from RIM. There's no harm in loading another carrier's OS.

Verizon does have an upgrade to 4.5 available for the 8830. Search the forums here for the link (I do not have it readily available). I've performed the upgrade and have had no issues.

They do now, but at the time I posted that I don't believe they did.
