Default New 8900 Update for T-Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

Just got an email this morning telling me there was an update available for my model. In this case, a Curve 8900.
Went to BlackBerry - Update your Device Software and sure enough, an upgrade from .114 to .231 is currently downloading/installing. Apparently a T-Mobile approved version, so it should be interesting to see what results I get.

I'll let you know!

Hmmm..I didn't see anything from T-Mobile. But, I am also running .239 and quite happy with it. I can't stand the crappy battery life of .250. :P

231 has been released already from other carriers. 250 is the latest OS. Tmobile doesn't do anything special to it. Its the same OS

Menu lag is gone, gone, gone. Scrolling is smoother and browsing my 8gb card seems quicker too.
The upgrade, as hoped, went flawlessly and everything was backed up and restored without issue. I had to re-enter all my registration codes again for my purchased apps, but aside from that, which is normal and expected, it was a perfect upgrade.
But again, I am very happy with the apparent performance boost. Of course, the email did say "This update includes optimizations and enhancements approved by your wireless service provider."
They are not kidding. If you have T-Mobile and an 8900 that you haven't upgraded yet, give this a shot. You might just like it.

I was actually using .250 for awhile but had serious menu lag issues and my battery life "seemed" off. I went back to .114 which fixed all of that.
All I'm saying is T-Mobile released .231 today and it solved a lot of my issues so I'm sticking with it.

Amen. I'm glad you said that. I was thinking my battery issue was actually my perception. It appears not.
I didn't see the update through the wireless update, but the website did have it. If you have .239, yeah, I doubt it will tell you there's anything for you.

Not seeing it on the T-Mobile site and when I try the online update, it says I cannot update as my device is tied to a BES or Professional Software which is not hte case. WTF am I missing?

Looks like it worked after I removed all of the service books. It is faster.

I hope it will be available OTA too, it's easier when you have a Mac.

i couldn't find it on the t-mo website either. Didn't see it through the phone either.

So I went ahead and did it through desktop manager.

I was on 114.

All i can say is so far I am not happy. Is it faster? Not sure. The battery life is worse! I'm at 80% after like 15 mins of USE!!! Also there is a pretty bad memory leak. Before it was stable at around 120megs, never dropping below 118! This update freed up memory, giving me about 125 megs, but after 15 mins, i'm dropped down to 116! What gives?!?

I guess i'll try and wait for the download and see if that helps.

What am I missing? The upgrade site shows .114 is the latest?

If you go directly to www.tmobile.com/bbupgrade and enter a valid phone number, then .231 Handheld Software should show up for download. I tried to do the download OTA, however, my 8900 kept showing "No Update Available" so I bit the bullet and just did it through Desktop Manager.
As for the upgrade, I notice a memory leak as well compared to .114, however, I think I could vouch that .231 is a little more speedy but I haven't played around with the new OS enough to 100% confirm that.

Hmmm, how is everyone else experience with the tmo release?!?

I think my reception got worse with this install? Memory leak is driving me nuts!

is this really the same as the .231 that was out before?

I've noticed my file free is lower than what it used to be with .250 (126319180 at boot to 118732044 with .231) but it seems to stay put rather than with .250 I had a major leak (would drop to 101XXXXXX after boot and simply opening App World). I'll have to use it for a few days to really see which is better. BTW leaked BBM 5.0 kicks ass!!!

If you have an AT&T 8900, this version is already pre loaded at release. Now both carriers "official" OS version's are the same..

I haven't had any issues with it. My phone seems faster and I am seeing better signal and battery life.

Actually, my pre-loaded version was .114. But then, I bought mine back in February, on launch day.

Exclamation

Okay, I did the OS update today, am now running .231... have found the following differences so far:
  • My ring tones/alerts are now LOUDER at maximum volume!
  • Calendar had a weird glitch after the update. I've entered people's birth dates and anniversary dates into the appropriate fields in their Contact List entries, and I also had a few of the major holidays on the Calendar as well. When this info transferred over, for some reason, the Calendar, while in the standard Agenda View, was spreading them over 2 days, the day of and the day after. For example, a birthday that's on the 9th of the month being listed as taking place on both the 9th and the 10th!
When looking at the faulty calendar entries, they all had the "send with" option set to "Device Default". On each of the faulty entries, I deleted the entire "series" (these were annual, recurring events) and then recreated the Calendar "appointment" from scratch. These were, in both cases, appointments set as All Day events. This time, they were displayed properly, on only the day the event is scheduled for. So, it's fixable, it's just a pain in the neck.

Anyone else experiencing this weird glitch?
