Default 2 questions:

Please Login to Remove!

1. Which uses less battery power for surfing and checking email: (a) wi-fi or (b) 3g cell service?

2. Is is possible to sort email on the BB? For example, to sort by sender like you can on the desktop?

Thanks for the help.

1. Interesting question. I am not sure, but I'll bet someone here looked into this.

2. There is no sort option as on the PC, but you can do searchs, a quick search option in the menu when an email is highlighted called "Search Sender" and "Search Subject"; this would filter by sender and subject.

My guess is WiFi uses more battery.

It allll depends.
As the OP is on ATT then they cant switch to EDGE only, meaning 3G is running all the time anyway, its pointless to have wi-fi on as well, unless in a bad 3G area.

If you can turn off and dont use 3G, wi-fi is less of a battery drainer.

For sure you get a lot less battery when the device keeps hunting for 3G and cannot switch to EDGE actively.

I live in a major metropolitan area where 3G is strong all the time. I also have unlimited data. Is there any benefit to using wi-fi rather than 3G? It seems to me that the speeds are pretty comparable---3g might be a little bit faster...

I use the wifi frequently when I'm home and it DEFINITELY uses more battery power than 3G.

Although 3G isn't bad for using power either. Watch CV certainly drains the battery and it's all 3G.

But is that just having wi-fi on, or actually using wi-fi to surf?

Having wi-fi on all day, and not using it to surf, drains the battery less than doing the same with 3G, purely because 3G is trying to constantly keep connection with the towers when you walk around your house, whereas wi-fi is generally a constant throughout your house.

i second midraven's thought, and it seems (for me) correct even when i leave the at&t network turned on, in addition to home wi-fi, at the house
