Hi all,

Been using an 8330 for about 8 months now, and love it so far. About 2 months ago, I installed an 8GB card and loaded around 1000 songs on my phone. I started to notice that the phone was slow to respond to trackball movements and clicks for 15-20 minutes after turning the phone on since then, and assumed the phone must be catalogging the music files.

Today, the phone locked-up, and i had to remove the battery to perform a reset. It's been over 1 hour since this, and the phone is responding at a glacial pace to any trackball or keypad inputs (it took over 30 seconds to bring up a BB Messenger conversation). Any thoughts? Could the MicroSD card be the culprit, or is something else going on here?

Did you try removing the MicroSD card altogether?

No, I haven't tried removing the card yet. I will try and report back. By the way, I left my BB on all night, and now it appears to be OK. I really does appear that the unit is indexing, or catalogging all of the music files on the card when it first powers up, and this seems to take hours now instead of minutes.

Try "alt L alt G alt L alt G" from the home screen and clear the log... should help a little

Thanks for the tip. I looked at that log after I did the alt L, alt G, alt L, alt G. and it wa filled. Cleared out the log and it now is as swift as when I got the curve two weeks ago.

I installed a 1 gig Micro card in my 8310 and have never had the issue of lock up before the card was installed. Other than having to deal with that, no other issues. I do clean the log. Maybe the OS is attempting to do something different when a card is installed

Thanks for the tip. I did try this, and it does seem to have helped. I will be more diligent about clearing the log periodically. Did you find this in the User's Guide?

This happend to me and I was being annoying, and finally found the solution

Look what happens. When you put a lot of songs in the micro card. The phone will then start scanning all the songs or documents that are stored in the micro card. So all you have to do is wait for the scann process to finish.

This usually happens everytime the phone gets locked or turned off. So as I said, wait for "Media" to finish scanning all the files. And as soon as it finishes it will be all back to normal =]

i have a 8330 and a 8gb card as well. i started with 2gb and then 4gb and went to 8 and did notice a huge difference in the speed of my phone. i think its just to much for the phone to handle. i have used about 5gb of the 8gb card.

I have 5.7GB free out of 7.4G(8G card) and I notice no difference in speeds

As I said. The slowness of ur phone its caused by the scanning process of the phone. So it depends how much songs you have in ur SDcard.

Whenever I attach my phone to the PC via USB and add/delete/move songs (currently over 3700 on a 16BG card) there is a significant indexing process occurring after I disconnect the device from the PC. To see it in action: Once you disconnect go into MEDIA and you'll see a progress bar on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes it moves - sometimes it doesn't. Of course, how long it takes, depends on the total # of files and how much activity was just performed on the device. If I just add 1 album cover, for instance, it's not going to be too long. But if I take off 4 albums and add 5, because of the size of my card, it will take a little while and it does indeed give significant lag to the operation of the device.
