Default Sound Error on 9900

Please Login to Remove!

Took delivery 9900 on Friday. No Right Channel sound. (with multiple earphones all working other sources)

Swapped it Monday. Tested sound in shop. Working. Played a few hours music over next 48. Right channel died again last night.

Rang shop to arrange next swap. Backed up BB ready for restore to new handset. Desktop manager informed me that there was another upgrade to the OS. Thought "lets see if that fixes the missing channel" (clutching at straws). It did.

Anybody experienced anythging similar or got a clue what might be going on?

a few hours after yesterday's post, I installed Telmap5, the open source (and highly recommended) Sat Nav for the BB. A few hours after that, I got ready to chill out to some music on the BB and, bugger me, the right channel had disappeared again.

I immediately deleted Telmap. No difference. This morning tried a restore. Still no right channel. In desperation, performed a security wipe and restore. Finally got the right channel back.

This is bollocks. Think I'm going to be ditching the BB unless someone has an explanation/solution...

Not all Apps work as advertised as you found out. any cell phone including Iphone and android can have these problems. If you looking for something for music then you really need to consider a device that is just that. I have an Ipod for music and never had any sound issues. Keep in mind the BB is a cell phone and was not intended for music although the market has pushed it in that direction.

The simple explaination is you had an App corrupt the OS.

Thanks for your response tsac

Since the initial post, things seem to have stabilised. Even have Telmap back up and running without further loss of channel. Don't dare to try the flashlight app again though.

What really frustrated was not so much the glitch - I'm a computer professional, I make a living from glitches - but how bloody awkward it was to trace cause and implement the fix. Security wipe and restore is somewhat drastic to fix what I would guess was a trivial problem. From other refs I have found to similar issues caused by similar apps (anything which siezes control of the video hardware) is that the problem is caused by the app not properly releasing its "hooks" (or BB equivalent). Do we not have a way (like windoze task manager) of forcing errant apps to close in the BB? Or would this not have the effect I imagine?

Incidentally, I'm a bit surprised at your comments about the BB as a music platform. I've always seen it as one of their strong points and, speaking as an ex sound engineer, I can vouch for the fact that they've done a pretty good job of it. So good, in fact, that the BB is now my preferred hi-fi source.
