There's a similar thread to this on the CrackBerry forums. I called Verizon (*611 from a Verizon device or 800-922-0204) and it's true, they are planning to remove the SMS Delivery Confirmation Status feature. But you can log a complaint over the phone or online (don't have the URL but it's posted in this thread).

Still works as of now here in Washington DC area.

I called. The rep said they're getting a lot of calls on this issue, but it essentially cuts they're text messages in half freeing up the network to handle more texts. I told her that may be so, but it's a great feature that should be retained. She logged my complaint.Watch this feature come back as "enhanced text messaging" for $5 a month.

Could probably achieve the same thing if people stopped texting while driving.

PIN messages and BB messenger dont appear to be affected.
Mine still shows the delivery after sending an SMS message.

Sounds like a materially adverse change to me.

I am in the Philadelphia, PA area and my region was one of the first regions to have the delivery confirmation removed from SMS. However, when you send a MMS, delivery confirmation is still there. So, in conclusion...

If you really need delivery confirmation on your SMS, send it via MMS instead. What's next? Are they going to charge $0.75 for delivery confirmation like the USPS does?

Your calls have worked. Verizon has delayed shutting down this feature in the remaining regions so this can be evaluated.

On 9/23 I received a voice mail at the office... this is what it said... (sorry, I typed as I played it, then replayed it.. I didn't spell check before posting...)

This is an important message from Verizon Wireless...

As the person responsible for your company's wireless accounts we are calling to let you know that the delivery acknologement notificaiton feature for text messaging will soon be disabled.

This feature currently informs you that a text message you sent through verizon wireless has been delivered. America's more reliable network delievers over 99% of the messages we handle within 15 seconds.

By eliminating the notification feature, our network will have more bandwidth dedicated to delivering your messges with the timeliness and dependibilty you've come to expect.

Please inform your staff of this minor change which goes into effect this month.

If you need more information please conact your Verizon wireless sales representative.
JGBerry, I'm suprised its turned of for you just up the road in Phily.. as DAK is still on here (Wilmington, DE) at the moment...

Finally turned off for me overnight last night.

I will be calling today to whine about it. It is a much depended on feature for me.

The 'D' icon on my BB 8830 stop showing up for about 2 weeks, but starting showing up again yesterday.

I sent a message to our Verizon account manager the other day and he said that it was officially being turned off to save bandwidth.

But now it is working again for me, so what gives?

The re-implementation of delivery verification is being phased in.

VZ Navigator already works on Blackberry. You can't get the per day use but you can get in for a full month.

Of course it was been out long before today. I was using the old version (v2.6.6?) when I first bought my BB. If you carefully read my first post on this, I said "latest" release, meaning version 4.1, like the other phones were using for a long time. The techs at Verizon had been testing version 4.1 since before May.

They released version 4.1 on 9/18.
