Default Deep uninstall of Desktop Manager v5.0.1.37

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB 9700 running OS v. 5.0.0.979. My computer(s) run Win 7 and BB Desktop Manager v. 5.0.1.37. Yes, both my BB OS and the Desktop Software are quite old, but I've tried updating to v. 6 and much prefer the versions that I have.

What is really ticking me off is that after every sync (first one each day) the DM insists on scanning for software updates and telling me what it thinks I need. From what I said above, you can imagine that I'm not about to let DM update things on its own!

I've read various threads on uninstalling/reinstalling the DM and have done so several times. Have also read about deleting the vendor.exe file and searching the cptr for hidden vendor files; have done that, with no joy.

It seems to me that there must be something in the Registry that is not being uninstalled. Anybody have some advice?

Thanks -

I believe you are saying the desktop manager keeps prompting you to upgrade the 9700 to OS 6. Is that the issue.

I appreciate your position. I tried OS 6 and went back to 5 when I was using the 9700. I don't remember what version desktop software I was using, but it probably wasn't 5 anymore by then.

I don't really have a solution for you. I don't remember the desktop software repeatedly prompting me to upgrade to handset OS 6. If you've done a clean uninstall and then reinstalled again, then responded negative to the upgrade prompt, then I don't know what else you can do. However, I would upgrade to desktop manager.

As far as deleting the vendor.xml file (xml, not exe), that has noting to do with your issue.

Thanks for your reply, Aiharkness -

The DM checks for "application updates" then provides options to update not only the device OS but also the DM and about 12 libraries - all to v.6

Upgrading my DM might be an option, but I tried some version of v. 6 a few years ago, and it was SUPER slow!

After I delete the desktop Manager from my computer, there are still some entries for RIM and Blackberry in my registry, and I'm thinking those may be causing my problem. Maybe I should back up the registry and try deleting those.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

No recommendation on doing anything with the registry. If you are confident it's low risk for you, give it a try and see what happens. I think your best bet is to upgrade to the latest version of the desktop software.

The slowness is likely something else, not the desktop software itself. The newest desktop software starts fast on my Win 7 machine, though it can take a while sometimes to connect to the BlackBerry or the PlayBook. Maybe in your case cleaning up the Registry will solve more than one issue with the desktop software.

I decided not to mess with the Registry - there were too many entries for RIM and Blackberry (even though I had uninstalled Desktop Manager).

So I decided to install a copy of Desktop Manager v. 6.0.0.43, and it works as well or better than the v. 5.0 that I had before. This is a different computer than I had before, and I am now running Win 7 which was probably not the case previously.

Thanks for the help!

Oh, and I no longer have the problem of DM showing me unwanted updates.
