Default RIM epic fail :(

Please Login to Remove!

My office ordered 16 new Playbook's 15 of them were 64GB, 1 of them 16GB.

Out of 15 of the 64GB PB's 7 started up going to the desktop by passing the setting, and the green light was solid. After a security and factory reset only two icons showed up on the desktop.

I can see why RIM is losing money now.

I would say they were not new or someone played with them before you got them.

Let us know what you finally did.

They were new, sealed, not tampered with, after a factory reset or secure wipe only two icons would appear. They would not reset properly and the light was come on as a solid green.

I can only wonder how many more sit at TechData that are broken, but I guess time will tell as they ship us replacements.

The PlayBooks were new. Which Technical Data are you referring to?

No, Tech-Data is a supplier for electronics. (They sell electronics to the stores you buy them from, e.g Wal-Mart, Best-Buy)

Oh yeah, I remember reading a story about some partnership in the US. TD, Brightstar, and RIM. Makes sense, I guess if a limited number of suppliers are supplying everyone(US), you are bound to get some bad batches and low quality manufacturing. Makes even more sense when you have some people who bought their first defective PB, returned it at the same PoP, and picked up another one.

Sorry they came from Ingram Micro, and Ingram sent us machines that looked like they had been updated to OS 1.08 at least. The startup screens were all that blue-ish colour. The old 1.0 OS was an orangey red colour remember?

The new ones worked fine.

So it's not RIM's fault then.

even if not RIM fault, people will still blame them

3rd party retailers can sell you a week old or a 9 month old item and still call both new.

True, but its still up to the manufacture to do its QC properly before it ships out the product. Its very likely the company manufacturing the PB in the beginning wasn't doing a good enough job with its QC of the Playbok.
