Go to options in messages - look under email reconcilliation - there is an option to delete on both handheld and inbox...

I have this issue also, and I have checked that setting. All is well....but the messages are still in my blackberry and have long been deleted in my INBOX. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

What e-mail system are you using on the back-end? BWC or BES?

If you're using a BES-based system, are you deleting your messages and emptying them from your deleted items or trash right away by any chance? If so, this may cause the messages to remain on the Blackberry.

When reconciling e-mail, the BB determines whether to delete a message or not based on it's presence in your trash or "Deleted Items" folder. If you've emptied the message completely before your e-mail is wirelessly reconciled, the BB/BES won't see it in your mailbox at all, and will therefore leave it on the Blackberry.

To resolve this issue, please follow the steps listed below.
1. Create a backup of the BlackBerry using the Backup and Restore application.
2. Using the Advanced feature of the Backup and Restore application, clear the "messages" and "folder id" databases.
3. Restore the "messages" database from the backup that was created.
4. If the messages that could not be deleted are still present on the BlackBerry, try deleting them again.

This issue is typically cause by a corruption in the messages database. There is no way to determine exactly how it was caused or any effective way to prevent it.

Is there any way around this as myself and many users use the immediate delete option for mails, especially junk mails, ( Outlook , Right Click , Shift Delete ), thus bypassing the deleted items folder.
Also for mails that are wanted they are moved to folders either in the inbox or to personal folders. It would seem sensible for the blackberry to recognise this change and update accordingly rather than leave a inbox full of unread messages to sort out.

Using BES 4.0 SP1 on Exchange 2003 with RIM 7290 and MDAIII via T-Mobile UK.

Regards,
Andy

Got this right from my RIM tech specialist. A BES doesn't process "Hard Deletes". A hard delete is a shift delete. In other words bypassing the trash. For whatever reason, they chose not to process these items. The other very irritating way it shows up is that a move of a message to a local pst is considered a hard delete as the message doesn't go to the trash rather it just goes away from the inbox, thus "Hard Delete" This behaviour is by design according to him although he agrees that it should not be. He did say however that 4.1 of the BES, which is due later this year will process these types of deletes/moves. Looking very forward to this.

Much appreciated. Roll on 4.1 in that case.

I have the same problem with BES & 7100's. Mail deleted from the 7100 never deletes from mailbox.

I am running into the same problem. Running BES 4.0 and Cached Exchange on 170 users. The problem here is the auto reconcile never works. If the user (myself included) does the Reconcile Now they will delete on client and BB, but that is the only way for us right now.

I had a problem with this with a user and believe it or not, I had to go into thet advanced options of backup/restore on the bberry handheld and delete all the messages from the handheld (lucky as he only had a few on it anyways).

The response I got from our BES support was that it's a glitch with the handheld software.
