Default Problem with Unlocked Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I'm currently A Marine deployed to Iraq. The Gov't has USG GSM (with a New York are code) cell phones that are given to certain people. I brought my pearl with me hoping I could use the sim card from there phone in my Pearl. Considering my Pearl is unlocked. When I put the sim card in it boots up and finds the right network even shows me my Gov't phone number and my contacts off of the sim. So it would appear everything is working. Until I try to call or receive calls. I get "Call Failed" and when I try to call the phone it goes straight to voicemail. I have contacted the people who run the srvice over here and they tell me it should work, T-Mobile tells me it should work. I guess my question is why doesn't it and is there something on my pearl I have to adjust, such as in the settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are no settings on the device required for the phone to work. As they've already told you, it should just work. Hopefully someone with a more technical background will help...

I'm assuming it all works fine in the original phone? I know overseas I have issues dialing out many times and it takes several tries before I get out.

Yes the phone worked fine before I deployed. I have tried just about evrything to get this problem solved. I even put the sim card in a fellow Marines unlocked t-mobile razr and it worked fine. My Pearl was only 4 months old when I deployed and it work great. I love the phone, thats why I want to use it over here. I know I can't use the email features but it is a better phone to use just to call and receive than the one they issue me.

It might be a quesiton of whether you are getting a signal when placing calls. ???

It is showing full bars when I make the calls. It says "Call Failed" with little to no hesitation. I push SEND and with in a second "Call Failed".

The only other thing I can think of is a similar problem I had with a pearl a while back. It had a radio problem on the 850Mhz band of the phone. Basically it worked fine with a TMobile sim card (1900Mhz) but when I placed another sim card from Unicel (it was unlocked) in it that used the 850Mhz band, the phone didn't work so good, and I got lots of call failed and no data. I finally had to return the phone to TMo for exchange. They sent me a new (refurb) one and all was fine after that.

It's possible that you have a defective phone that works on some radio frequencies but not others, as I did. One thing that I noticed on the problem phone was the signal arrows going back and forth were small and erratic as opposed to the larger normal arrows indicating data transfer.

I have two big arrows going back and fourth. Is that what yours did? Maybe I should contact T-Mobile again.

the arrows just mean data is being sent back and forth. i would try to upgrade the os and see what happens. if not i would call t-mo and see what they can do.
