Default It's Official....No More BB For Me...

Please Login to Remove!

My company has decided to not renew their BlackBerry license and will be changing over to Android devices.

My 9330 is gone as of 5:00 last night. I am now a user of a Sprint EVO 4G running Gingerbread 2.3.3.

This is obviously going to be a huge change and frankly I already miss the comfort of a platform I knew inside and out. Probably the biggest change is the loss of the BB keyboard.

I have already come close to throwing the EVO against the wall, but luckily it was too heavy for me to pick it up that high. Just kidding.

The screen is truly stunning, but I am not fond of texting using the virtual keyboard. I will give it time and frankly since I don't pay for the phone I am good with whatever they want to pay for. It gets calls and I can text my daughter. What more could I want?

I did install Pandora and a voice assistant app similar to Siri and it is pretty impressive, but I really only scratched the surface with it.

I will continue to visit and try helping while I can, but not having a BB in my hand to try things out will make it a bit more difficult to assist. These boards have been of tremendous help to me and I thank everyone, especially the more than patient mods.

And then there is the fact I still have my PlayBook........

I had the Evo 4G when it was released back in June 2010, I believe. I upgraded to the Evo 3D when it was launched this year. I enjoyed the Evo, however the battery life left a lot to be desired. I agree, I missed the BB keyboard a lot, and still do at times. You can install Swype or SwiftKey too, you may like them better, but again, you will have to get used to it.

Thanks for that jsconyers. I understand the updated OS resolves some of the battery woes, but time will tell.

I will look into the two apps you mentioned. I have seen them mentioned elswhere.....

I have read that too. I never had Gingerbread on my Evo 4G as I got the 3D instead. Battery life of the 3D has been much better, but that came with Gingerbread installed, so that could definitely be the case. Best of luck to you with your new device.

Ask them if you can switch over to the Motorola Admiral instead. And android device that is very BB-like. I have one for work and actually like it...but mostly because it didn't take me too far out of my comfort zone

I guess if it is not apple, then it would be android eating up BB market share

@stevetaz

I have recently shifted to Android as well. I really miss the BB keyboard too, but not sure there is ever gonna be a device that completely fits my needs/wants. But it's fun trying to find it... LOL

Battery life seems to be a problem on all new smartphones(some more than others) including the new BB's. My Moto Atrix 2 has gotten close to 40 hours of light to medium use which, from what I am reading, is pretty darn good all things considered. Of course that is after tweaking.

You can still be a positive contributor here with your ex-BB knowledge. So don't be a stranger.

Good luck with your new device.

Thanks to all for the encouraging posts.

It will take some time to not miss the keyboard, but being an old fart it takes us a bit longer to change. LOL

@juwaack68, interesting thought, but not in the cards. At least not now.
@devnull, I certainly do plan to haunt this place. At least for awhile......My daughter still has her 9780, but I think she is getting ready to jump ship in March...As soon as I stop paying for it. Funny how that works, eh?

And then there is that PlayBook....

One suggestion - you should consider an antivirus app because almost every day there are articles in the news like this:
More Trojanized games enter Googlexxx039;s Android Market app store | ZDNet

I also recommend giving SwiftX and Swype a try. They are both revolutionary. I ended up going with SwiftX for myself.
