Default First of its kind error - GSM Network only

Please Login to Remove!

Dear Readers,

I'd really appreciate some help here.
I'm using a Javelin with OS 4.6.1.250

I've just got my BIS activated but on my device I only
receive GSM network only. (in upper case)
No gprs or GPRS was shown in my device & basically
I'm like without a data.

However I do have some clue after reading through.

In my host routing table, there is no entries.
When I try to register for one, this error shows :
"Registration message queued. It will only be sent once
data coverage is available"

Is this related? Does anyone has a solution for me?

Tkq in advance for any assistance.

From the BIS website, try to send the service books to your device.

Ok. Does your service provider support your model blackberry and do you have a blackberry data plan? If so, look at options > mobile network, data services. Is it set to On?

Sounds like you have not yet connected to the carriers network and are roaming on another GSM carrier.

My carrier do support this BlackBerry model (Javelin). I've a valid & active
BIS data plan with them. My MDS is turn on.
To be exact, this device is a brand new replacement from another carrier.
It has no entries in host routing table & not even register yet for entries
but I can't register it.
Everytime I try so an error shows "Registration message queued. It will be
sent once data coverage is available".
To make it worse, my own carrier is not able to register it for me.

Any remedy to my problem?
I would try just about anything to get it connected to data.

Dear all,

I've manage to identify the root of the problem sharp & clear.
I will post it here for the benificial of knowledge for all users.

My device is unlocked to use the phone function with any telco BUT
it is locked to use a data plan with other telco.
The error is the device would not have any entries in the host routing table
and yet you would be able to register it without data.
Does anyone here knows how to unlock the device to use data with other telco?

I'd very much appreciate if anyone has a solution.

Dear all,

I've got a new clue. A friend told me this.
I've to ask the previous seller to release the device pin & imei from the telco.
Would just try this & feedback if it works.
Good luck to me on this Christmas Day.

That is actually a common problem with second hand blackberrys -- the device PIN still registered on previous owner's BIS account -- and the new owner get's an error message to that affect. From what I've read on the forums I'm surprised you didn't also get a clear notification.

Ira,

This time you are wrong. The previous telco of this device mentioned
the device PIN wasn't registered to their account.
When I uses my own telco sim again no host routing table entries.
So frust!! Anyone out there has a solution?

Ira,

My friend told me that my device could be hooked on to the previous telco
that's why I can't connect it to my new telco.
But now I've checked with the previous Telco & they told me this device is not
hooked to any of their BIS.

Still trying to figure out how to solve this.
Anyone outside has a solution do comment.

Tks a lot.

Since some readers out there are confused, I will explain in details as follows :

I've bought a used BlackBerry Curve 8900 of telco Starhub Limited (Singapore).
I found the trackball faulty & managed to get a replacement set from Starhub as it is still under warranty.
This new device carry the following PIN & IMEI.

PIN : 2110BD21

IMEI : 355383.03.566030.8

I brought it back to my own country (Malaysia) & use it with my current Telco, Maxis.
I'm able to make/receive calls & send/receive sms.
Then I went along to register this device to use my telco (Maxis) BIS service.
I managed to register this device to my telco BIS but however I wasn't able to use any data services at all ie. emails, browsers, applications & even wifi.
My device only shows upper case GSM network on its screen & no gprs or edge.
Throubleshoot cames & I found there are entries in the device host routing table.
Whenever I try to register the entries this error will appear.
"Registration message queued. It will be sent once data coverage is available"
I called up my Telco many times on this problem & hasn't got a clue what is going on.
Their BlackBerry technical assitance also spoke the same tone.

For trial & error I went to purchase a Starhub sim & activate this device with Starhub prepaid BlackBerry service & to my surprised the data services came alive!!
The device is showing upper case GPRS now on its screen & I'm able to use all the data services.
Thinking that this device PIN might be hooked to Starhub wireless network I called them up to release it.
I got a big shock when they told me that this device PIN wasn't hooked to their BIS service.

Not giving up I went back & try to register this device with my Telco (Maxis) BIS service again & this error came.
"The information you have provided is not valid for this service provider"

I got so upset & has been losing sleep as both telco are unable to tell me what is the problem.
I'm paying for a unlimited BIS plan now with my Telco (Maxis) & unable to use any data services.
Went off to spend my Christmas losing sleep!!!

Can anyone out there tell me what is going on??
I would also be very grateful is someone is knowledgeable enough to guide me how to hook this device with my Telco (Maxis) BIS & use all the data functions.

Lastly not forgetting I wished all readers a belated Christmas.

Hi. Sorry to hear bout that but i am also using a Javelin from starhub. What i know is that malaysian mobile network is extremely unreliable for data usage. Did u try the starhub sim in singapore or in Malaysia?

I believe that your PIN could been blocked sine its not accepted. Or perhaps, Maxis only accepts BB from MAXIS themselves? Because while in USA the lock their handsets, some other regions LOCK their network.

What i can tell you to do, be a PR in singapore.

Oh wait. My mistake. The reason as to why it works with the starhub then dont work with MAXIS is because YOU FORGOT TO DE-REGISTER YOUR DEVICE FROM STARHUB.

YOU NEED TO CALL STARHUB TO RELEASE YOUR PIN THEN RE-REGISTER WITH MAXIS.
I think you called them too quicky? try calling again.

Dear TezyTan,

Thank you for putting your head together.
If u have read correctly in my posting, I've mentioned this is a brand new replacement unit from Starhub.
Initially when I got it I went straight and register it with Maxis.
I was able to register it in Maxis BIS but however a/m error was found.
Then when I activate it with Starhub, it works.

But no matter how, I would still try your suggestion.

Post an update when you figure it out, Dennis. The only thing that makes sense to me is that the blackberry is still registered on the starhub BIS, despite what starhub told you.

Hi, Tezytan & Ira!

Tkq both for your concern over this issue.
I've called Starhub again & got this finding but my problem is still not solve.
What they have said may be very correct.
Remember in earlier my post when I said that I've actually register this device first with Maxis BIS?
Starhub has found out that this device is actually hooked up to Maxis BIS i/o
Starhub.
Starhub has advised me to call Maxis to release this device PIN & re-register it
again.
They will terminate my Starhub prepaid BlackBerry at their side.
According to Starhub, their device are unlocked & should have no problem to be use with other Telco.

I will have it sort out with Maxis & post further findings.

B/Rgds,
Dennis

Dear Readers,

I've got my BlackBerry alive & kicking!
For the benificial of all, I will post what I did here.

First of all I called up Starhub to cancel off my prepaid BlackBerry
service with them.
From the information given by Starhub I figured out that my device
is hooked on Maxis BIS but working on Starhub data network.
I've called up Maxis & ask them to release my PIN then reset my BIS account.
They told me to do a hard reset (battery & sim off) for 10 minutes.
When I turned it on after 10 minutes, to my surprised upper case GPRS appeared.

From my own analysis these few days the only clue I for the cause of this is
probably I register my BIS too early even before the data service is activated.
Other that this I can't think of any possibilty.

Welcome all to share their view here.
