I had a frustrating situation when taking a flight a few weeks back. The airline gave me the option to check in using a PDA, so a square barcode was sent to the phone in lieu of a printed boarding pass from a kiosk. When I went up to security, they went to scan me in. It didn't work. I though it was because I had a protective case with a plastic cover over my screen (Body Glove for the 8330). I removed the case and had them try it again - no good. The guy said he ALWAYS has trouble scanning from Blackberry's. The iPhone apparently works best. So, I was wondering if other 8330's have the same issue. Maybe a screen like the Tour or Bold would work better as it has a higher resolution than the 8330?

Having said that, I wonder how well an application such as the link below would work?

It may not be the resolution. I have noticed a slight reflective surface on the screen and that may cause the reader to fail. Maybe the Iphone screen is not. Maybe the BB screen is designed for reading in brighter light.

9700 doesn't work well without a screen cover. I just went back to paper. More trouble trying to juggle the BB while pulling out liquids/laptop and removing shoes.

Tried it last night with that app I listed above (Card Star) and the grocery scanner couldn't pick it up. Oh well... Down the road perhaps.

Grocery scanner won't read it if it's not programmed to read that perticular type of barcode.

This program creates standard bar codes. I typed in my grocery rewards card number and it looks exactly like the little plastic keychain barcode.

It's actually an interesting idea. I don't carry any other rewards cards so if I end up at one of the competing grocery stores, I never have that card with me.
