Default IMAP Sync?

Please Login to Remove!

HI all

Sorry if this is been asked before, I have an 8250 on O2-UK and am using it with BIS, the email provider I'm using supports IMAP-IDLE as does the BIS so the nice thing is email is pushed almost as soon as it arrives.

The biggest annoyance for me seems to be the syncing of messages.

If I read an email on my Blackberry the BIS will update my IMAP account to say the email is read.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working the other way round, even if I press "reconcile now" is this correct or is something going wrong somewhere.

It's rather irritating as I end up re-reading emails i've already looked at on the PC

I have another 8520 that uses a BES (Company phone) and that provides a much better experience (obviously) , however if i think i'd have to pay a lot more if I wanted BES access on my Personal Blackberry as I'd have to upgrade to exchange hosting with my email provider, pay them to use their BES and then as I Understand it also pay O2 extra to allow me access to the BES network.

I actually switched to blackberry for my personal phone specifically for the messaging support (I had a android handset without a keyboard before, nice phone but a nightmare to try and type an email out on)

I think BIS does not support full IMAP yet.

Any idea if there is going to be an upgrade to support IMAP better?
I really hopeso as it would vastly improve the experience if it sync'd properly.

Looking into things further I don't think i could use BES even if I wanted to, it doesn't appear to be an option for a consumer tarrif.

You could always go to a hosted BES solution but you would need the BES plan and pay the hosted BES fee on top.

No I can't, not without changing mobile operator and that's not something I'm prepared to do.

As I said it looks like it's not an option for a consumer BB tarrif.

Hosted BES has nothing to do with the carrier AFAIK, other than requiring the BES add on. Perhaps O2 doesn't have a BES package? Hosted BES providers would be exchangemymail, mailstreet and a couple more.

O2 don't appear to allow people on the Consumer Tarrifs to add a BES addon, they also charge quite a lot on the business tariff to add BES Access.

My email provider does offer a hosted BES if I upgrade to their exchange offering but I don't think it will work due to the above.
