Pearl as USB tethered modem???

So, I'm at my wits end here. I'm trying to get my G4 mac mini to use my 8100 as a modem to no avail.
Here's what I have tried:
Pocketmac with Motorola bluetooth dongle (widcomm drivers) and modem scripts - failure
Virtual PC (as XP pro) and Desktop Manager - failure
I don't think the bluetooth is an option, as the Motorola 1.2 bluetooth is notorious for limiting connectivity, but there has to be a way to sync and use EDGE on my mac via USB.
