These all = More drain on the battery!

I personally think RIM should have included a larger battery but the reality is they are in competition with other devices that tout how slim they are..
It seems to me that RIM sacrificed battery life in exchange for features that appeal emotionally to its users. The touch screen on the 9900 is so Ooh! and Ah!, but what's so bad about the 9700 trackpad or even the trackball from the past? Is it possible to disable the touchscreen and navigate only through the 9900 trackpad to reduce battery usage?

I do admit that the 9900's browser is the best feature. Works as well as the Safari browser, and RIM was long overdue here. Beats the pants off my 9700 browser, but for websites that take forever to load on the standard 9700 browser, I also have the Opera and Bolt browsers that both help with navigation issues, and they work out well.

The thin battery for the 9900 is where RIM failed. Given the features of the 9900, a battery of 2000 mAh would have solved the problem.

The 9700 is still a great device. It's just that the 9900 is MUCH faster at EVERYthing. The processor is so much faster. The 9900 is also a larger device, making the keyboard much more user-friendly for folks with larger hands.

The trackball was a dog. Prone to dirt accumulation and failure. This problem reached it's peak on the 9630 Tour, and the trackball failure alone was enough to get me to upgrade to the 9650.

Hopefully somebody like Seidio will produce a higher capacity battery that will fit in the standard configuration, no hump-back battery door. RIM made a design decision, seeing the mania for slim devices, and the battery capacity was sacrificed to the fickle will of the Gods of Consumer Preferences. It's still better than any Android device I've owned, and it's within 10% of my 9650 in terms of battery life, but it's definitely a (small) step back.

I agree, Rambo! The new browser ROCKS! As good as Android and better than Safari...

I will take a little less battery life all things considered! Lightning fast processor, touchscreen, ect...

I really didn't realize how much I missed the BB keyboard until I got my paws on this bad boy!

I was going to dump BB for good after my 9700 BUT since then I got the PB for cheap and was excited about the bridge and now I just got my 9900 and back in love with RIM. I have the iPhone 4 as my personal device as well as the Android tablets as well as the HP Touchpad that I got on that fire sale.

I am a long time BB user. Ever since they came out, I had a BB device every 2 years on average.

As for the 9900, love it. It's not big compared to the size of the Android phones that are coming out these days. Keyboard size is great. A little too clicky to my taste but much better to type on than the 9700. The battery size, haven't had a problem yet and I leave wifi and BT on all the time, turned down the screen brightness to 10 and don't use facebook and twitter.

I'm at least 50% of the time connected to wifi which I believe consumes less battery than H+ but correct me if I'm wrong. 6 hours and down from 100% to 80%. I'm not stressing this either but I'll update when I get some real usage.

Is that 6 hours connected to wifi doing nothing or after 6 hours of wifi use? I use podtrapper to pull some university lectures and talks from my old alma mater and then bluetooth it to the Blackberry Remote Stereo Gateway that's connected to hi-fi gear. 6 hours of either local playback or streaming to bluetooth or playback streaming over wifi would kill my battery waaayyy more than 20%. Doesn't add up.

I use my BB and PB for the following:

Phone call, email, browsing, viewing attachments. I'm not continuously utilizing the devices in the 6 hours.

Obviously you are using a lot more but how does your usage compare with the battery life of your other devices to do the same thing?

I can compare with my 9700 and the 9900 is pretty close. I'll know more once I start having more telephone calls and browsing more.

Can't edit my post but since 2pm to about 7:30pm EST...battery has gone down to 20%.

First 6 hours, only 20% drop and then next 5.5 hours, a further 60% drop! Really strange.

That means I really have about 12-13 hours of use on a full charge?

Maybe my battery needs to be conditioned a bit more. It's only been a few days since I got it.

Well at least charging seems to be quick. I have one of those external battery packs so looks like that will come in handy.

I'm using the 9930 with Verizon for a week and a half now. The battery life is a little less than my 9650 but its still pretty close. I've used every Blackberry since the first Nextel BB and this is up there as the best one yet. I wasn't sure about the touchscreen with the keyboard but the keyboard is great and the touchscreen is fantastic. The new browser really takes it to the next level for what I can do for work with it which is its primary role. I don't mind trading a couple hours of battery for the improvements from the 9650.

Now we're on the same page. The above sounds way more accurate and in line with what some hundreds of users have reported at work. 20% drop on 6 hours wifi use was science fiction optimistic.

Another interesting development, I charged it to full before I went to bed. Turned it off as I use the alarm. Turning it off, gives you 2 modes, turn off and full power off. I chose just to turn off. Worked the first night, woke up to the alarm and BB turned on. This morning, nothing...battery was completely drained from a full charge. So either:
a) the battery really wasn't fully charged (bad device)
b) something was draining the battery
c) bad battery
d) bad charger
e) all of the above

I never had a hardware issue with a BB from the 8 or 9 devices I had over the years. I'll see after one more day if I need to do warranty on this device or battery.

How long does it take for your units to fully charge? I think my unit is charging up way too fast. It took me about 7:45 to 8:50 to from 0 to 100%.

I charged my phone yesterday night like 10pm I finished charging. This morning I woke up and I checked the phone. It only has 91% battery left.

My 9900 is on 5th or the 6th charge cycle now and it seems to be getting better but its no way near the 9700. I am a heavy user of the phone and my 9700 lasted me around a day and a half. the 9900 hasnt made it thru a single day ever since i got it 5 days ago. it is by far the best blackberry i have ever used in terms of the device itself but battery is pretty bad. just ordered another battery for this phone... i guess most people will need it.

Dude, I'd wait until the Blackberry 9950 comes out, or at least a battery extender. A dead Blackberry before dinner is totally unacceptable.

I disagree - the BB doesn't hold a candle to the iPHONE for browsing. The iPHONE is way faster than any BB, including the 99xx.
