My 99XX battery story. At first I had the 9930 on Sprint. Both at work and home, when indoors, it kept flipping 3G and 1EX. This took a serious toll on the battery <4 hrs. I sent it back and got a 9930 on Verizon, which has a steady state indoors. Now my battery life is as good as my 9700 and 9780 was ...

Although widely accepted that CDMA devices are in general less power hungry than their GSM counterparts i still find it hard to believe.
The 9700's battery life has been legendary of epic performance, without a doubt a RIM success story.

I'd agree. I have never heard of a 99xx with battery life close to or equal to a 97xx, unless that 97xx had pitiful battery life...

I know of no one 1st hand who's gotten battery life worth mentioning on this device. I believe that if you have a 99xx that has battery life exceeding more than 65% or so of a 97xx...you're part of a very, very small percentile.

Battery life is weak. I need to recharge during the afternoon. I also noticed that the battery became quite hot during a 10 minute phone call. Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if this kind of heat could affect the longevity of the device itself.

overall, i do like the device very much.

Battery life is not very good. Manageable, unless one is on the road all the time. I have to think about turning off (and turning back on!) wifi and bluetooth and i have just ordered the docking station to have in the office.
A great phone nevertheless.

I love the phone except the battery life.
I have to charge every day, even from 10pm

Like I said... I must have a magical 9900 because battery life for me has been great!

Here is a shot of my battery life / usage...

58% left after 12 hours of usage...

-- I have sent / received 80 texts / PIN's
-- 15 emails sent / received
-- A ton of web browsing (maybe an hour or more total)
-- Facebook (maybe an hour total)
-- Pocket Day Sports on auto update every 2 minutes since 10AM

I have not used phone and do NOT have BBM installed...

I guess I am glad I have a magical device...

After a week using 9900, I found out that this phone is great, but it can not be the best because of battery life.
I would say, this phone is one more thing wrong that RIM has done so far in product development strategy. You will see the price of 9900 will be dropped fast as Playbook price.
I am not a business man, but I can't stand to charge it everyday. Now, my life comes with another fear, a fear of out-of-battery on the phone.
I still don't know why RIM could release a phone with very very shot battery life like that!

I would rather charge my phone every night and have newer better tech than go back to my 8830 that could last five days on one charge. You can't move forward in device tech and expect the batteries to jump in line and have the same life as they used to.

They are getting better and the battery is still better than I got on either of the two Droids I had. I can go two days on one charge and that is more than sufficent for me. The heavier users should get that spare battery and charger and carry it with you. Seems like a good option until magic batteries are created that last longer.

I think RIM wanted to have a thin phone so that they reduce battery capacity.
I would prefer to have a thinker phone than the phone that has very shot battery life!

Well, this phone has both. It's thin and has poor battery life.

Compared to most Android smartphones the 9900 is lasting longer for me.. It's about on par with the iPhone 4..

Ever use any of these?

HTC EVO
Droid X
HTC Sensation
Atrix

If you have, then you have a new appreciation for the 9900 battery life...

Ugh, I'm a former Evo user. Worst Battery Life Ever. Made the phone nigh unusable. A couple co-workers had the original Droid and after a forced firmware update (Verizon just pushed them out overnight) the battery life was almost cut in half.

I'm very pleased with my 9930's battery. I get a tad less life out of this than I did on my 9650, but it can't be more than 10%. I get through a full day and night on a single charge.

With the EVO it was a good day if I got 7 or 8 hours out of it. With the Droid X I averaged 8-10. The Sensation got me about 6-8 hours and the Atrix got about 6-8..

The 9900 is easily lasting me 16 hours off the charger with plenty of battery to spare (30-40% left)..

I removed all the junk that I could and removed BBM..

I did briefly put BBM back on and my battery life suffered greatly.

My suggestion is that if you do not use BBM, remove / uninstall it and see how that effects battery life..

I never use it, so it was no loss to me.

Overall, I am very pleased with battery life on this powerhouse of a device with a touch screen..

For mw, I was upgrade my 9900 from 9700 that has great battery life.
That is the reason make me feel tired of short battery life on 9900.
I wish I could you some other Android to have a better feeling like you guys do have here.
Poor me!

9900 -v- 9700

The 9900 has a more powerful processor, it has a larger screen, and it has a touch screen..

These all = More drain on the battery!

I personally think RIM should have included a larger battery but the reality is they are in competition with other devices that tout how slim they are..
