The GSM evolution is actually switching how they transfer information over the air. It's not going to be a TDMA only technology, but a CDMA technology, and some phones will use the QUALCOMM chip. It will still use the SIM Card technology. You can read up about it at wikipedia.org

Technically, it's going to be a dual-mode phone, that switches from HSDPA to GSM when you move out of the area. I've heard that they were trying to fix the problems of going from GSM -> HSDPA and getting the bounce back UP to the highspeeds.
Okay what exactly does this have to do with a 8700 series coming to Verizon, please explain. What you just said describes a 8707v from Vodafone, which is by now common knowledge.
