My company issued a new IT Policy file that prevents me from installing any 3rd party app I was thinking of wiping the device cleanly and installing the apps then re-provision my 8100 to the server. The thinking is that this will get the apps I want on the device before the policies kick in. So, I tried wiping the device and it wiped all my PIM information, but did not appear to delete the device to factory settings (deleting the Policy file, etc.). Is there a way to get the Pearl back to Factory?

I'm not sure how you tried to wipe the phone, but in:
"Options" / "Security Settings" / "General Settings", then click the Menu button and choose "Wipe Handheld" and follow the directions from there should totally clean out your phone and make it fresh-out-of-the-box

I had to do this a few times yesterday while getting it tied into my work's BES server and it worked just fine for me

Wiping the handheld will no remove the IT Policy. I think that's been established in several dozen threads.

If your company pushed down a policy, many of us here would recommend you leave it there. At some companies, changing/removing IT Policies is a dismissable offense. Not sure you are going to get much guidance here.

what if your no longer on the company bes and do not want the IT policy on your unit any more? i have tried javaloader and handheld software reinstall. it still shows in my security settings? annoying...

Javaloader won't work. You are out of luck if you can't get onto a BES. There are hosted BES options out there, but you have to pay for them, and there have been a few instances of people who run BES' that were willing to do favors.

If you have access to an Exchange or Domino server, you can install your own Express BES...
