Unhappy Battery appears to drain alot after Mp3 use.

Please Login to Remove!

Hey team.

Whenever I use the Bold as an Mp3 player, battery seems to drain really quickly.

Bar drops by a lot after 1 - 2 hrs of use. And all I am doing is listening to Mp3s.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I use maybe an hour or two of mp3 use and really I haven't seen a lot of battery drain.

I'm using the latest OS upgrade. Maybe you should try the same? After I upgraded I noticed a better battery all around.

Yeah.. .it's not meant to be used as a full blown music player. ANY phone will drain quickly when playing music, it's in constant use and requires processing power non stop.. among the many other things it's doing at the same time.

Thanks... well I'll try again after I upgrade to the new OS.

But I mean, the Bold was advertised to be a good Media device - it even has a 3.5 mm jack.

So even if it doesn't have as much life as an iPod or whatever, you still expect the battery to be decent.

How much use do other people get when using their BB for music/media?

Just curious because I want to know if it's just me (maybe my battery is a little flat etc).

I just went for an hour run. I was listening to my music the whole time. I had a GPS app open the whole time to track my distance, speed, etc.

Before going for my run I was at 40%, now 1 hour after I came back I am at 25%.

So I'd say a 15% drop after 1 hour of MP3's while simultaneously using my GPS app and then another hour of standby isn't bad at all.

"it's not meant to be used as a full blown music player."

On what are you basing this erroneous statement?

OSs are supporting ever larger memory cards; full media playing software, in stereo; 3.5 mm jack (as someone else pointed out); ships with earphones.

You gotta just love the people on this board who make stuff up. Morons.

The bold ships with a stereo HEADSET.
For taking calls, hence the 3.5mm jack.

And due to todays market they have included a media player.

But as Mushroom mentioned, its not supposed to be a full blown music player.
It is a email/business device first.

This is just wrong!
I am sure that RIM would be very happy to have a device that compete's against the iPhone - which is supposed to be a 'full blown' media player!

That's what they worked towards, so I'd say you are wrong in your statement. However, that it's not as good a media player as the iPhone is not by design, it's just that they have concentrated more on the business uses than the media, but that will change very soon.

BTW: I agree with the poster before that OS update is necessary to get the best media playing abilities - as that's the 'youngest' application it will get the most improvement from updates.

I regularely use it for 2-3 hours as a music player.
The important thing for battery life while doing this is to holster it so the screen turns off - you can opperate the blackberry as a music player for skipping forward or back, pause, volume, etc, using just the buttons.
If your constantly looking at the screen it will drain battery a lot faster.
