I went into a Verizon store yesterday to check out the new Bold 9930. It really is a very nice phone. Very thin and light.

Just as I was about to decide, the Verizon attendant told me he felt I should know that the Torch is coming to Verizon soon. He said they should have it in their store on the 15th. I will wait for the Torch to be released and then decide. But I should say, the Bold 9930 is really nice!

The Torch is already shipping on Verizon. Started shipping around the 6th of this month. My local store had them yesterday.

Is your Verizon store located near a rift in the space-time continuum? They seem to be a little behind.

I am up for a new phone and the last I looked two weeks ago only one new Blackberry was being shown. Also the Blackberry display was extremely small compared to the Android walls, tablet wall, and iPhone wall. My how things have changed.

It would seem we are a bit behind. Small town Texas.

I checked out the Torch on the Verizon website, and its different from the Torch thats on AT&T. Its not a slider variety. This Verizon one is all touch screen. I kind of like the slider one.

So, for those who have them, whats the verdict? Which is better? The Bold 9930 or the Torch 9850?

"Better" can be a relative term that changes with each user.

I can tell you that I've used both the Torch 9800 (slider) and now have the Torch 9850 (on Sprint). I MUCH (much....much) prefer the 9850. The design of the device make it much easier to hold, plus it a lot slimmer than the 9800.

I've activated a few 9930's for my end users, and although they keyboard is nice, having the keyboard made me forget the screen was touchable. And honestly, I still prefer the larger screen of the 9850.

Yes, the screen! Thats the only thing that didn't make me get the 9930 yesterday. I have used a Storm for the past 2 years. I am used to the bigger screen. But the 9850 has a slimmer screen, no? The 9930 did look sleek though, and so light.

Why did Verizon not get the slider Torch?

No idea why they didn't get the slider torch...

Having held both the 9850 and the 9930 in my hands at the same time, I had zero desire to use the 9930. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice device, but the larger screen.

What do you mean by 'the 9850 has a slimmer screen'? Slimmer than what?

Apologies. I meant slimmer than the Storm, in width.

Ahhhh... Ya know I'm not sure, but on the BlacKBerry website, it gives these dimensions for the devices:

9850 Torch: 4.72" height x 2.44" width

9550 Storm: 4.43" height x 2.45" width

So..... that extra .29" of height may make the Storm screen a little wider in landscape mode.

AT&T has an exclusive on the 9810 (Torch slider), so for now no other US carrier can sell it.

I know what you mean.

I got the Torch today. Its nice. But I am already having issues. I cannot read email messages. The emails come in, I see them listed. But when I use the scroll to open, or tap on the screen, nothing happens.
