If someone BBMs me a picture, I can not save it. It will go darker for a second and then clear up, but never get to saving the picture.

I also can not attach files from within BBM. I can go to a picture or document and select to share it and it will share to BBM but I can not do it from within BBM.

No errors given, it just stopped doing it.

This is the same for any app (Twitter, Browser, etc.).

I can live with the fact that no apps will access files as I can share them manually, but not being able to save files people send me really hampers me. I have to get them to email me and use my laptop.

Any idea what might cause this?

A couple of thoughts.
Are you on a corporate blackberry? if so it may be restricted by policy

How large are the files your trying to send or save? there are limits in this also.
As for photos. not all are compatible with a BB OS.

The following picture formats are supported:
TIFF
PNG
JPG
BMP
GIF




Documents

The following document formats are supported:
XLS
PPT
PPS
DOC
PDF
RTF
TXT

Another issue may be the amount of memory free either on the installed storage card or the SIM. Too many apps will cause many issues.

Thank you for your reply. I have available free space and I am not corporate. It is usually a low resolution jpg or pictures taken from another Q10 or a Z10 being shared to me.

It's only through testing other files like PDFs and such that I found out no app can access data files directly or save files to the device.

I haven't added any apps in a long time although I do update what I have. I am currently weaning out apps I don't need.

Where I would use this most is BBM and to a lesser extent the Browser and Twitter.

I can screenshot things but I can not save files. Eg. You take a picture with your BlackBerry and share it with me through bbm, I can not save it to my BlackBerry.

Ok a couple of thing to try.

first do a backup to your PC
do a wipe to reset the BB to factory
add the required email and BBM id's
without adding any apps beyond the factory ones try to see if the problem is cleared.
If so it may be one of the apps your using causing the issue. Load one at a time, test and if you find it delete it.

The other is a bug in the OS your running. Try upgrading to the latest.

the issue may be related to a simple corruption on the loaded OS and doing a wipe or replacing the OS may fix the problem.
my suspicion is one of the apps you have is the cause either by itself or it corrupted the OS.
