Question 8820: Orphan Missed Call icon

Please Login to Remove!

My 8820 went low on memory and deleted my Call Log.
Right before that, I had missed a call.
Now, I'm stuck with a "1 missed call" icon.
Any ideas how to clear this?

I tried rebooting (Alt-Cap-Del) and Hard-reboot (pop battery out) with no success...

Many times the only fix for this is an OS reload.

The OS reload is the only sure way I know of. I was do the OS install thing to get rid of PTT on my 8820 and it was reaching the end and someone called me! My phone rang but I was scared to answer. When it fully booted, there is was, the dreaded missed call indicator that would not go away no matter what! OS reload again to fix it!

That bug has been there since the first Pearls came out. Very annoying.

I updated the Desktop Manager on Friday and it fixed my language problem,
but I hesitate to overlay my BB OS (mainly because I'm unsure how to do that).
I have the software on my PC? Now what?

Based on this post, can I assume that if I just delete
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader\vendor.xml
the DeskTop Manager will reload my software?

Thumbs up

After spending all afternnon trying to restore DBs (via DM) on my own, last night I finally "bit the bullet" and called AT&T. They picked up very quickly and the support person was very good. She tried many things I didn't think of (using DM to clear a few DBs), sending a reset from their server (with my phone off and battery out), etc. When they finally gave up, they suggested I do a Master Reset (wipe handheld). I was not ready to give up yet, so I asked to be transferred to BlackBerry. BlackBerry support did a few more tricks, without success. This even surprised them (go figure, why is it always me?). Eventually, even RIM gave up and he walked me thru a Wipe.

btw - if you're ever going to do this, it's a good idea to do a backup first.

I did:
  1. Backup via DM
  2. Wipe (this only took a minute or two, he said if I had encryption on it would have said scrubbing instead of wiping, and scrubbing would have taken hours since it resets every bit). Edit: There was a wipe option that allowed me to not wipe my 3rd Party Apps. I selected that. It was nice, the BB reset back to look like I just got it, but with all my apps there. I had to re-register them all since the system/common area where their keys were stored was wiped, but they were all still there!
  3. He resent my Service Books
  4. Restore only the Calendar and Address DB via DM
I'm still trying to remember all of my settings, but at least the icon is gone
