Default Help- messenger virus question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
My x-girlfriend and I both have blackberry with T-mobile (mine is 8900, hers is 8320 i am pretty sure). Several months ago we set up blackberry messenger to chat w/ each other. We have not used it in at least 6 months (maybe more) though.

about a month ago she found a message from me dated january 30, 2069 and it had a file attached to it. She took it to tmobile and they told her I sent her a virus and deleted it from her phone. She could not tell me what the file was or anything identifiable about it.

can anyone tell me how this could happen since we have not used messenger in several months? Do I have some sort of virus or a worm? Does she? does this even make any sense?

please help, this has caused a big problem between us and at first i thought she was just making it up, but I now believe that she really did get a message from me somehow.

thank you in advance for any thought or suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Jody

There are no known viruses for the BlackBerry.

There are no viruses OR WORMS for the BlackBerry. The T-Mobile rep. simply made it up. Easier than actually figuring out what it is.

Wow, thank you everyone, I really appreciate the feedback.

I was thinking the same thing about a tmobile rep just saying that because it is easier than figuring it out. However, I now believe there was some sort of message.

Any ideas on how there could be a message like that without me sending it; dated 2069, from me months after the last time i used messenger, with a file of some sort attached if it is not a virus? I have not had any other issues that I am aware of from my BB, and no other strange outgoing messages (although she was my only messenger contact). Thank you for any ideas no matter how unlikely they may be.

There are worms that spread though instant messaging like MSN but not BlackBerry Messenger.
F-Secure Computer Virus Information Pages: IM-Worm

They won't infect the BlackBerry however. And I have gotten plenty of spam with dates in the future like 2069.

makulaf, is it possible she could have gotten it by email instead of BBM and maybe was confused? Or does she have another IM app on her BlackBerry?
The sender can be spoofed, making it look like if came from you, for example, when it really didn't.

Hi Daphne, anything is possible I suppose and unfortunately I was not able to see it before she took it to tmobile and it was deleted so I cant be sure. I will ask if she has any other IM apps. Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate the help. Have a great weekend.
