I am a longtime windows mobile user (since pocket pc 2002) and the 8800 is my first blackberry.

advantages over windows mobile and the Q

battery life
more responsive
running native java midlets a big plus!! (eg opera mini)
better keyboard then the Q. ( keys are easier to press and are extremely responsive. I also like the key layout )

complaints
---------------------
in the inbox all mail from different accounts go to one mail folder??? wtf

contacts are not nested by company just a single list

media functions need more polish especially video (320x240 not full screen) and
audio playback control is fairly weak (is there any 3rd party media player?)

I can't for the life of me figure out how to mute dial tones from the keypad when dialing in the phone app

So far my experience with the blackberry platform has been positive. I think RIM still hase some work to do on the OS portion.

POP email? If not Exchange put all mail in inbox on Smartphone also. If you are referring to POP mail...

from home screen ALT/CLICK Pearl> Show all
You should see all your POP inboxes separate. Highlight them to "Show"

Even showing all the individual Inboxes, all messages will still go to the Messages folder (which is not an Inbox - it is the Messages folder)...

You are so dead on.
Waaay back I switched from a 7250 to the VX6700 when I was with VZN. That might have been my most painful move with phones EVER....Where do I start....freezing issues, daily resets needed, wandering stylus calibration, etc, etc.
My favorite was when it wanted my stylus to have to touch OUTSIDE OF WHERE THE PHONE EXISTED for it to work.

I put that 6700 on eBay, walked into a VZN store and paid (got a decent negotiated price) out-of-contract rate for another 7250. I have since switched to CW and am using the 8800.

RIM OS just works and works every day. I also often comp it to the Mac OS as when you want to do something, there is a very good chance that the way to do it will be more simple than you expect.

I like BB's so much I am going to have a hard time deciding whether or not to get the iPhone when it comes out. I want it and it will be sexy as heck but if it does not perform as well as my BB......who knows...

..oh and I totally forgot about battery life! The folks I know with the Q are NOT happy about this.

You will have to figure out something else to do during those multiple reboot sessions you had with your WM device.

When in your address book, menu key, new group. You can create different folders or groupings, of course then you will need to go in to the address themselves and indicate what group you want it listed in.

what about muting the keypad in the phone app? If i can mute the keys ill certainly be a happy camper then i am now.

Well if your on Cingular then go into settings> Options> Screen/Keyboard> near the bottom you should see the setting your looking for!

This is why I prefer BlackBerry over WindowsMoblow!

I was once an avid WindowsMoblow user and a palm user. Getting used to this way of viewing messages was tough at first, but now that I have seen the light, I could never go back.

You cannot mute the keypad in the phone app (what the OP was actually asking).

Yup. You should have individual icons for BIS-integrated accounts. As for BES, you can either flag BES messages as Level 1 or use a Search tied to an Alt-hotkey combo to filter messages.

Media functions are pretty much brand new to the platform. Considering that the Pearl and 8800 are reall ythe first models to offer any support, I think RIM did an ok job. They definitely need to do some work for future releases though.
