Question Fill Me In

So...I've considered getting the Mogul and as a newbie to the PDA world (never had or used a PDA in my life) and as someone who doesnt really need alot when it comes to phones, I came to the conclusion that the Mogul might not be right for me, being as so many people (PDA-pros even) complain about its difficulty to use.

Considered the Centro, and its still a possibilty, but it's a little too small for my liking...thats actually the only thing stopping me from getting it.

The next best thing I see is the Blackberry 8830. My only concern is I hear alot about having to pay extra $$ monthly. I plan on getting the 450 min. Simple Everything Plan for ($69/month) which supposedly includes Unlimited internet and messaging, Web surfing, email, GPS Navigation, Sprint Music, Sprint TV®, BlackBerry® Internet Services (BIS), text, pictures, video...and all that good stuff. Although I dont know why they include GPS Nav. if I have to pay an extra $9.99/month for it..

But other than that, what would I "need" that I'd have to pay extra for? What are these data plans about???

"Need" is going to differ from person to person. What are you looking to do with it? That will determine what you need.

Your data plan and the fee for the GPS software are two entirely separate things that have nothing to do with each other. Your BB is GPS capable but I have yet to see a carrier include a fully-fledged GPS app with BB data service.

Any additional apps that you want that aren't free/included you'll need to pay for (just like on your PC). The BB data plan merely enables push email and internet services that are required for many applications (web browser, GPS, etc).

I dont plan on doing much with my phone at all...in fact, everything listed in the Simple Everything Plan is pretty much all I'll need it for.
Dont mind paying the extra for the GPS, I was mostly concerned with whether or not I'll really need the data plan...as long as I can use the internet (w/o a data plan) I'm fine.

You can't use the Internet (or email, or PIN messaging, or GPS, or IM, etc...) on your device without a data plan.

Yes, it should be... but you said you weren't getting a data plan... so I'm confused.

You said "as long as I can use the internet (w/o a data plan) I'm fine."

Yes of course...like I said before Im getting the 69.99 everything plan...I was under the impression that there was another data plan needed on top of that, but I see now that it depends on what exactly I want that will determine what else I need. Sorry for the confusion...Clearly I'm not very PDA-literate.

I have the "unlimited simoply everything" plan for $100 with the BB curve. I have also owned the Palm Treo755. BB is by far the better device! The Everything plan includes just that.... EVERYTHING! It is also worth it to pay the extra $30 for unlimited talk minutes. You never know how much you're gonna need to talk on your phone in 6 months or whatever. It's best to be covered just in case.... Trust me, I speak from experiance. And it's only $30....
