Thanks! This workaround enabled me to remove messenger.

In other news, I sadly also confirmed that shazam is not working.

What happens when you run Shazam under this version? Does it give an error message, freeze, or does it just refuse to run (i.e. like nothing happened)?

It just quits when you run setup...this problem had the same symptoms on a previous release.

I am running v5.0.0.423, which is quite stable for me. Is there any feature in this version that's worth the upgrade?

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Some sms bugs are fixed, like deleting multiple sms threads at once from the message list no longer locks up the Messages app.

Only problem I am having after installing this release is that my contact specific audio alerts for SMS texts do not work. I double checked the settings within my contact and everything seems ok. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think this was a move to reduce redundancy by RIM, however removing the dedicated LOCK key still IRKS me to death. I cannot have or use my BB without it and I hated how most other smartphones lack this without pressing the power button (which is asinine to be in combination with).

Has the dedicated LOCK function returned in .1022 yet?

Not yet... but Beiks has just released an overpriced app to restore the auto lock function... I don't think it will be long before it resurfaces in one way or another... but I doubt it will be the top buttons...

It amazes me that how RIM would release an "official" OS and some basic functionality of the OS is not working. It's like messing with bb users at will since they know that ppl will download a newer version of an OS for the sake of it being "new".

I'm sticking to the .344, do a battery pull once a month, clear the cache mem and cookies, delete msgs in the saved folder... keep a certain amount of the the device mem free and viola!

My bold runs smoothly.

There should be a direct email to the department of RIM that release these kind of OS... that mailbox will fall appart with mails like "It doesn't work like it should!!!!"

There's no functionality missing on .593. What are you talking about exactly?

Did anyone notice the password lock is back with this version?

Once you set a password, you can then set the left convenience key to activate the password lock. I figured this out trying to make the K work which just wasn't happening.

Nice to have that back even though you have to set a password.

Old news. People are still quite put off they can't have the lock icon without a password.

BTW, the K key should work with a password set as long as you have disabled "dial from home screen"

I have dial from home screen set to NO but I can still dial from home screen. Strange because I can hit B and launch the browser and M for messages and L for calendar etc... But K ask if I want to assigned it to a speed dial number.

Tapping a key (B, M, etc) will lauch the BlackBerry shortcut.
Pressing a key (B, M, etc) will launch the speed dial shortcut for any assigned numbers (or prompt to add a new entry, if unassigned).

Dialing from home screen allows you to manually dial a phone number by recognizing the key presses similar to the way a touchtone land line phone works.

The difference between the first two options (tapping and pressing a key) is how long you hold the key. Dialing from home screen is, indeed, a setting managed via the OPTIONS area. (Green 'call' button, options, general options, dial from home screen = YES/NO). If you press and hold 'K', it should have no effect on the dial from home screen setting because the 'K' key is not shared with a numeric key... where as 'D' (8) would...

Default How to determine region for software upgrade ?

I would like to upgrade my software to the latest one but find there are two options Asia and All Languages. How do I find out which one is for me. My handset was bought in the UAE but I am not sure if it is a import from Singapore or somewhere else. Can someone please help me in this, thanks.

Install whichever one has the languages you want. Where your device came from is irrelevant.

Thanks for your reply. I am running 586 and absolutely no problems. I believe with the new firmware you loose the funcionality of the top left side standby button ? Is this correct or am I wrong ? Should I upgrade ?

.593 and .586 have the exact same lock functions.

I liked .593 because it got rid of some of the sms bugs. But if .586 is working fine for you then just leave it be unless you're dying to run the latest stuff.
