Can someone tell me how to remove visual voicemail on my bb 9700? I never use it and it is showing up in the currently running programs. Will removing it free up much resources? Or should I not even bother?

It's a core application and I don't think you can delete it or stop it from running in the background.

actually, its pretty easy to remove. first make sure you have Desktop Manager installed on your computer, also install the device software for what ever version is on your device, then navigate to: program files, common files, research in motion, shared, loader files, then choose the folder of your current OS version, then open java. now, do a search within this folder for: " VVM " and delete everything it finds. now plug your device in, open desktop manager, and run app loader. it should remove visual voice mail. i usually delete the files before installing a new OS, but i think this should work if its already installed.

Does this stay deleted or will it get pushed to the phone again like some things do (e.g., the extra crap they always send)?

It will stay removed. It isn't a service book.

it will stay gone. however, every time you plug your device in to Desktop Manager, it will tell you there is an update available for Visual Voice Mail. just ignore it and close the message.

Thank you for all the help. However, when I browse to program files, common files, research in motion, shared, loader.....the only OS version that is showing is one for my old BB 8310 curve. I see nothing for my 9700. I have used Desktop Manager before since I've gotten my 9700 but haven't downloaded an upgraded OS for it, I'm still using the one that came pre-loaded. Haven't downloaded another OS because at the moment my current one is working fine and have no probs with it.

If you're not having any issues with your current OS I would wait until you want to update and take care of it then. Unless having VVM running in the background really bothers you, in which case the latest OS version is .442 and can be found at the top of this forum.

BTW, I see you're on AT&T. Have you tried the visual voice mail out? It works really well, is free, and much better than their regular voice mail. Only available for Bold users.

If you are adventurous, you can delete all sort of files from

c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\<os>\java

My Faves (for T-Mobile customers)
I also delete VAD - voice activated dialing - as I never use it

JUST BE CAREFUL and don't delete something you actually need.

And if you do, just reinstall the handheld OS to your PC to put all the pieces back

Visual Voicemail is free with a qualifying smartphone data plan. If you pay $30 a month and (in this case) run BB 5.0, you can get it, 8900s included. Just gotta find someone who knows the system well enough to add it. (It wasn't directly in our training.)

Link doesn't appear to work, and when I go to the blackberry website/software section I see no link to download my current OS, only to update.

By the way, a quick update on the VVM deal. I also posted this in the same forum but nobody has answered. I didn't know VVM was a free service, so I figured what the heck I'd give it a try. Went to AT&T's website yesterday and added the feature to my account and set it up in my phone. Tried a test call and left a voicemail, no notification of vm.

So today I called AT&T and told them I wasn't getting notification or voicemails at all. They checked my account, had me call in from another phone and then they left me a test voicemail. All of a sudden I got notification that I had 3 new voicemails in my VVM inbox.

Long story short, I listened to the voicemails and just really didn't see the big advantage of VVM and asked the AT&T rep to remove it from my account and put me back on basic voicemail.

Now I'm back to square 1 and worse than I started lol. My phone doesn't receive any type of notification that I have unheard voicemails. I can manually call my voicemail and it tells me I have new ones. But no notification on phone.

Do you think there's a bug in my VVM module or something? The reps at AT&T were clueless, was on the phone with them for over an hour then I had to go to work. They said if I call back they can escalate me to RIM eventually.

I was wondering if removing all of the VVM modules now on my phone will clear up the issue? I REALLY don't want to upgrade my OS unless I absolutely have to. This is the only gripe I currently have with my phone but if thats what it will take to fix this vm issue then so be it.

you dont re install it. follow my instructions from above. remove the files from your pc, then run app loader in desktop manager. it will see that your device has files that are NOT in the OS file on your desktop. (because you removed them) so it will remove them from your device to match whats on the pc

Make sure you use the loader.exe in the same folder as the vendor file instead of trying to upgrade the OS using DM like I did. It will frustrate you to no end...
