Question Cannot use my 9700 in Canada

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have a BB 9700 that was locked to Orange UK. I got it unlocked and verified that network & simcard in MEP are disabled and I could use any operator SIM with it. I used it for a year with a different operator and then I moved to Canada.

Here I realized that it does not work with any operator's SIM :( .I tried Rogers, Telus, Bell and none worked with it. What could be wrong with my phone ? Is there some other lock that is still in place ?

Regards,

Some carriers use different frequencys to communicate between the tower and the headset. You should bring the device into a corporate store and ask if anyone there can help you trouble shoot it. Alternatively, you could call the carrier and ask to be escalated to BlackBerry specific tech support.

Hi,

Do you mean GSM 900 & GSM 1800. I think the one Im having is dual band and can work with both. Rogers is a GSM 2G network whereas Telus and Bell are 4G LTE. Therefore, I dont think thats the problem.

I took it to Telus, Bell and Rogers' stores but they were unable to help and said that there might be a location lock on your device. I googled to see if there is any such lock but could not find anything about a geographical lock on a BB device.

My BB is just a digital alarm clock now :(

Regards

Incorrect. Rogers operates GSM 850/1900, UMTS 850/1900, and LTE 1700/2100. Bell operates UMTS 850/1900 and LTE 1700/2100, whilst Telus just operates UMTS 850/1900 in addition to legacy CDMA and iDEN networks.

If you're on a corporate BES system you may not be allowed to use third-party apps. The company pushes an IT Policy to all users that dictates how the device may be used. They lock out features like non-corporate email and often force the device to self-lock after a set period of time.

Fortunately, I am not using corporate BES but unfortunately I still cannot use it as a simple phone :(

Yes, it should work with all of Rogers' bands.
