Go options > status and look at free memory. Then pull the battery for 30 seconds or so, and check again. What are the two values (before and after)?

13 MB is getting on the low side. You might have to start deleting unnecessary apps.

And be aware that having a Media Card will not help with the device memory being low.

Also try not to store a ton of message son your phone, it eats up memory as well

Wirelessly posted (8820)

Relatively speaking, messages do not take up a lot of space.

If you look back at old threads on the memory issue you'll see that there seem to be some variables involving the applications installed, what's running, and so forth. Some people are able to function on very low memory compared to others who are having trouble.

Ditto the advice on the memory card. The blackberry will not automatically use the media card to expand available memory. Move media to the card, store new ring tones on the card, and so forth. But also delete themes and applications you don't really need.

Also, check to see if you have any unused applications running, and close them.

At best, my free memory is never more than about 8 MB on my 8310, and I don't think I've ever lost an email or SMS message. If you're getting "low memory" alerts though, there's something else at play - as others have said, probably something to do with the mix of apps you have running - make sure you don't have anything running in the background that you don't need.
