My company disabled me from installing any software on my blackberry (8700c). does anyone know a workaround? i click on http://google.com/glm, it connects me to Google Local for Mobile, asks me if I agree to terms and conditions. I click on Yes. The next screen is Download Google Local for the 'Blackberry 8700 v4.0+' and i click on that. The error I get:


HTTP Error 406: Not Acceptable

The page you are trying to load is not supported by the browser. Please try loading a different page.

Options then are 'OK' or 'Details.' Clicking Details:

200: Application can not accept the content [text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor]

Anyone know how I can get around this? Thanks

If this is a company provided unit, use the following procedure:

1) Get caught trying.
2) Have BB confiscated.
3) Get fired for violating company procedures.
4) Purchase your own BB, if you can still aford it.

If personal BB on your company BES, have your BES Admin send a blank IT policy, then imediatly remove you from the BES.

I am not going to get fired. AND - I paid for the unit, I own it. What does send a blank IT policy and then remove from the BES mean?

It is how the administrators of the BES controls what is allowed and not allowed to be done on BBs connected to your company network (BES). It is the policy that prevents you from installing third party apps. Once a policy is installed, you need to have it replaced with a blank policy sent to get full function back. Your admins probably won't send you one and still allow connection to the BES, although you may be special, since you say you won't get fired.

Some of the details here may be slightly off as I'm not a BES admin, so someone correct me if I am.

Let us know how it works out. I'd like to know what your admins response is. Most places I know of now want control of what's loaded on devices connected to their network, especially wirelessly. Unless of course, you own the network.

i will let u know. i am a producer in my company. when i produce, i get the it staff and others paid. that is why i say i will not get fired. i only get fired for not producing. the policy is in place so no one downloads something awful or lets someone bad into the network.

If you have a different browser on your BB, try the link with that. On my Cingular, I have to use the browser labeled "Internet Browser".

I have a simlar problem but am not special. What if I would have installed an app before activating BES when i took it out of the box? Is there a way to go back to pre-BES activation state, install apps, and then activate?

I am trying to install Telenav so I can use GPS when traveling.

One issue is that you are using the BES browser instead of the BB browser. I would give that a shot (the bb browser is the globe without the tower beside it normally).
