Default Thumbwheel Skips

I have a Blackberry that has a thumbwheel problem. Sometimes it moves between menu choices with each click of the thubwheel, sometimes it takes two or three clicks before it moves. Almost like stripped gears.

Anyone had this same problem and found a fix? I am about ready to pop it open and see what I can find, but wanted to see if anyone else had done something already....

I've come across a few of this problem in the 5 years I've been dealing with BB's... it's due to wear . . . what i've done in the past was bought cheap devices off eBay and used them for parts (i've used up screens, lithium-ion batteries, battery covers, vibrating mechanism and thumbwheels. . . I had a tough time getting parts directly from RIM and if I did, prices were so outrageous. A word of caution, when you open the device, make sure you don't pop-out any of the connections accidentally, especially the wrap-around antenna, they're a pain to put back, if your lucky enough not to break them.
