I received a txt message pointing me to the following website. VZAccess Manager

It basically says free software upgrades for my VZW 8830. A quick whois of the domain shows it is not owned by VZW. I'm wondering if anyone else is getting these.

It does belong to Verizon and is a normal message when they are offering upgraded software.

Why do the DNS servers not point back to VZW? Also, what's up with this information?

I concede the site is quazi legit at best. I posted my original message as a warning incase anyone else gets one. Download software at your own risk. Personally, my bb works fine, so I'm not in a hurry to download software of questionable origins.

You take your tin foil hat off. It's legitimate... not quasi-legitimate.

Lots of companies outsource their DNS to their ISP.
It's not at all unusual to see a third-party providing DNS services for a particular domain.
Suit yourself. Don't upgrade. No one is forcing you.
