Default Enterprise Activation....retrying.....retrying

Please Login to Remove!

This one has me stumped.....

I've got a user ('Cheryl') in China who has a 7290 Blackberry that we can't get to activate. She just get retrying... three times and it times out and shows 'server not responding'. Here are a few more facts:

- I sent Cheryl the device from the US (it was formerly used by a US user, on the Cingular network).

- Cheryl contacted a local cell carrier in China and they helped her unlock the device (I've never done any unlocking, so I don't know what's involved with that).

- Cheryl's email account in on the Exchange server here in Michigan, so I have added her to the BES here (BES is 4.0.6, Exchange 2003 SP2).

- Cheryl is able to send a PIN message to me from that device, and said she shows the 'D' when I receive it. However, when I reply, I do not show the 'D', and she says she doesn't receive the reply PIN.

- The Application Log on the BES is showing this error related to the Blackberry Dispatcher "{Cheryl someone} Old OTAKEYGEN packet is cancelled, Tag=3394720".

- I had Cheryl run DBCLEAN on her workstation - several times. She now gets 'Nothing to delete' when she runs it.

- I've removed her from the BES and had her wipe the device several times and the activation always ends the same way.

- She contacted her cell carrier and they told her "they can see me on their system (including PIN numbers and all relevant data)."

- I have other users who are in China who are on the BES here and they work fine (including the Enterprise Activation).

The next thing I'm going to try is removing her from the BES and having her try the activation to see if she gets the etp......blackberry.net message stuck in her Inbox.

I may also have the email team move her mailbox to the Pudong Exchange server and then add her to the Pudong BES. Can't hurt at this point.

I'd like to look thru the Blackberry Log files, but I am clueless at what Log to look in and what to look for that might help.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!

EDIT: I did find the following in the MAGT log:

Sounds like the local carrier did not apply the correct Data plan. Have her try to use a yahoo account or something as her Email address and then see if an activation message arrives.. If not then it's an issue with the Chinese carrier.

Thanks, I'll have her try that.

Default The latest...

Update: Cheryl received the [email address] message in her Outlook Inbox just fine yesterday (she forwarded 5 of them to me).

I talked with RIM this morning and they said they can see her PIN in their system, and if I can't send a PIN to her then it's an issue with the local carrier provisioning. Now I'm going to have her:

1 - Force the device to register with the network to see if she receives the 'Registration' message on the device

2 - Try sending/receiving a PIN message with someone local to her location.

3 - Have the cell carrier (Maxis) reprovision the data feature for her device. Sometimes removing and readding the data feature will fix provisioning issues.

I do have a question as far as unlocking devices goes. How exactly does that work? The device was originally used with Cingular - does Cingular have to provide the unlock code, or can any carrier help with that?

i believe you have to get that from Cingular or pay one of those unlocking services. If she can make phone calls under the new carrier, the device is good to go.

This so has me so stumped....

- She did the registration and received the registration message.
- She was able to PIN with someone @ Maxis (both ways).
- Maxis has removed/re-added her data and helped her set up her BIS account (hername@maxis.blackberry.com). She even sent me an email from this address last night! AND I am able to send/receive email with her at this address!

But yet I still cannot send her a PIN message. ARG!!!!!

After a lengthy phone call with RIM this morning, they have no idea why the activation isn't working. They think it's a latency issue since she's in China and the BES/Exchange server are here in Michigan....but I have several other users who are in this same situation and they work just fine.

They suggested she try doing a *GASP* wired activation and see if she can get the device activated that way....so that's the next step.

She has a BIS plan, not an Enterprise plan. Maybe that is the problem....
