These BES licenses are good if your business/institution/organization is already running Microsoft Exchange but do not yet have BES;

Useful links: RIM has information about Blackberry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange. There's also a Lotus Domino version of BES, as well as an upcoming Novell Groupwise version. Also, very very tiny businesses often prefer to go for a Hosted BES solution such as Mailstreet to avoid paying for a BES upfront for only 1 or 2 employees. However, having your own BES becomes more economical for bigger companies.

Wow, I got mine for a whole lot less.
Purchased from CDWG (which means CDW would have it too.)
Also saw it available from Buy.com for about the same price.
It was between $700 and $800 dollars from CDW and Buy.com. For the "Blackberry Enterprise Server" and 5 client licenses. Latest version at the time (I believe it was 3.6)
I assume that 5 more licenses would be a little cheaper, otherwise I could just buy another BES package, and use the license within.

Should mention that the above prices are in CAD.

Talked to my Rogers rep today and he was mentioning that there are rumors that RIM will be dropping Small Business Licenses for BES 4.0. That basically you'll have to start with 20 users and the full blown thing. Has anyone heard anything similar to this?

If BES 4.0 at 20 users is the same price as Small Business at 5 users, then that's not a bad move...

Time will tell. There are small businesses that should have access to BES...

On the other hand, the enhanced features of BWC 4.0 somewhat makes certain features of BES less necessary for small businesses who don't otherwise want to run Exchange. (i.e. MDS)

Quite the contrary Mark, supposedly dropping small business all together and starting with 20 licenses for around $6000 as opposed to the $1600 that Small Business is now. So basically the starting point for purchasing BES would be $6000...

Cool, even cheaper than at cost through my Rogers rep. But it still doesn't solve the problem of what RIM is going to do with Small Business Edition when BES 4.0 comes out.

Was there a resolution on this issue? Can you get small business 4.0 with 5 users?

Yes. I just purchased SBE 4.0. There is a cap of 15 users though.
