Post Change SRP on BES 4.0

Please Login to Remove!

We are about to upgrade all our handhelds (7230's & 7290's) to V4.0 for the wireless enterprise activation feature, and upgrade from BES 3.6 to 4.0.

At the moment we have a BES 4.0 server running with a trial SRP license. We want to upgrade the handhelds, add the users to the BES 4.0 Server, activate wirelessly, then change the trial SRP to our SRP license. When changing the SRP for BES 3.6, you need to recradle each handheld to create a new key.

My question: Does a handheld with V4.0 on a BES 4.0 server need to be resynchronised/reactivated wirelessly?

On exchange and notes I believe it can.

On GW BES 4.0 you must wait for SP1

what bfrye said. just did the same thing the other day and no recradles were needed. it takes about 1-2 minutes for it to change on the handhelds though.

Thanks guys. If it only takes a few minutes to change, and nothing is needed to be done from the user/handheld side, then it should be an easy change.

I'm afraid It's not that easy.

We had trial installation of V 4.0 with 20 user license added to the evaluation copy.
Now we decided to obtain the full license for 5 users.

The change of SRP was quite smooth but I don't know how to change the user license key which expires in 74 days of use.
When I try to upgrade the key with the new one for 5 users the BB Manager throws:
"The license key being entered in incompatible with license keys existing in you License Manager."

Is there any possibility of upgrade without disturbances to current users?

It told me something similiar when I entered our Production keys. It booted off the trial licenses stating there was no longer any need for them. No users were interrupted though.

Changing my SRP was a pain though since I did not have SP1 at the time. Everyone had to be reactivated on our BES 4.0HF2 Domino config.

Making changes to the SRP ID on the BES will always result is some type of "disturbance" to the current users. The extent of the "disturbance" is dependent on the device code that currently exists on the users' handheld. Those devices with 4.0 code can be activated wirelessly (or if needed via the wired method). For those with 3.6->3.8 code they can only be activated by cradling....unless the code is upgraded to 4.0...and in this case you will need to have the DM upgraded to 4.0 before you can accomplish this as well.
So in the first case it may take a couple of minutes to activate in the second it may take hours depending on resources and any other issues.
The license key you are attempting to add should consist of 5 groups of alpha-numeric characters (6 characters each) ...starting with besxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxx

I'm getting the following error when moving licenses from an old 3.6 BES to a new 4.0 BES:

"The license key being entered is incompatible with license keys existing in your License Manager. Please contact your point of sale or BlackBerry Support for assistance."

I exported the license keys from the old BES and have double checked that what I'm copying & pasting is correct.

Any ideas?

Is the 4.0 BES one of the free "Express Bes"?

From 3.x to 4 is a paid upgrade. You need to buy a SRP upgrade.

An SRP is an SRP you don't need an SRP upgrade.

Had this isseu before - its true and the persons you bought teh keys from just now are not matching keys you origianlly owned

Express BES - only by SBE (Small Business Keys) NOT Enterprise keys
SBE BES - only by SBE keys unlesss you purchase an UPgrade key (lets you go from SB to Enterprise)

How to test for this? the only way I know if is to call the carrier/RIM and have them test the keys

One IMPORTANT thing to note when changing SRP ID in BES4.0... is to not restart the server immediately.... we have experienced that a server restart actually broken the change process - the updating of new service books were not sent to handhelds and we ended up needing to wipe and then re-activate all handhelds... it was brutal and chaotic... all calls came in with users complaining message failures... So just highlighting to let all know here...

Cheers!
