I don't have an iPad but I can see why they would be totally fun and great for entertainment.

I LOVE my netbook because it is small and lightweight, easy to get in and out of my handbag, no need for a separate laptop case. That is the best thing about it compared to a larger laptop. I use it when working out of town, in between appointments and while I'm waiting for appointments. I can do all my work documentation with our online apps, do reports with Word, and more. It does everything I need for work and is lightweight, easy to carry around, and has built in vzw modem for easy internet access. The speed is not like my fiber connection at home, but is decent enough for my purposes. And it cost only $149 when I renewed my VZW contract.

If these devices are sold with what their intent is for, they should do ok as a companion/media consumption device with basic computing. Most people don't realize how many different things they actually use a computer for until they buy a stripped down device that is missing a ton of things they didn't realize they actually use and need. The iPad is missing way too many things to be taken seriously as a replacement for any computer.

If people buy a netbook as a basic extension device to their main computer, the devices are awesome. Daphne described the perfect use for the machines IMO. They are great on trips and powerful enough to do things you want it to do. On the road and at home, I watch movies with it, stream video, and any basic computing tasks you want to do.
