Question Q10 will not select WPA-PSK but Z10 does

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I have several Q10 handsets that will not connect to my main office Wi-Fi.
The Wi-Fi is running WPA-PSK, however 10.1 Blackberry OS insists it is actually WPA2-PSK. So, authentication fails every time.

I tried adding the network manually with the security type set to 'WPA/WPA2 personal' but it still will not authenticate.

However two Z10 handsets automatically connected and authenticated OK using WPA-PSK (their Wi-Fi information screen shows WPA Personal as the security type).

Is it a difference between the OS 10 and 10.1 or something else?
Do they share the same Wi-Fi chip etc.?

The Wi-Fi system uses Motorola AP-5131 routers.

Paul Robins.

Set your WiFi network to use WPA2.

Tried to change the channel?

Edit: And if you can make sure that all devices support AES you should follow Dc/dc' s advice.

Make sure the device is permitted and gets an IP address. On the Z10 various faults all ended in the same error not making it easy to identify the exact problem.

Unfortunately the routers will not do WPA2.

There are 7 wireless stations around the warehouses / factory (on separate channels) and it's the same error in different offices - still no luck.

What's odd is that the Z10s connected OK - unless there was a change with the move from 10 to 10.1 on the Q10s a few weeks later...

Time for new routers... otherwise you have a security risk.

Yes but no, there is a lot equipment that uses the fall back option of WPA. Just swapping the router could cause major hassle with devices failing to connect. Before that is not ruled out it is wasted time and effort.
