Guys, is there any fix for this? I am trying the 8520 beta file and it's not allowing me to update. I deleted the vendor file and ran the loader and it says no action is required. I do have a data plan on my SIM and I have updated plenty of BB devices in the past. I did upgrade to 4.6.1.470 without any issues.

Default Solution...

I had the same problem, and no... using loader.exe and deleting the vendor.xml does not work. Loader would fire up, and allow me to remove some third party apps on the phone... that's it.

My situation, I have a phone that i'm upgrading that is not currently activated... no phone number, no data plan... nothing.

When I go to upgrade it tells me I need an active blackberry service plan for OS 5.

So I wiped / bricked the phone with crackmem, then ran loader.exe (left vendor.xml intact because the OS is from my carrier), and it allowed me to put 5 on (with no additional applications).

Now i'm installing all of the apps through desktop manager... and it's letting me because I already have version 5.

In my case, that's when I did get that message. Once I loaded an official release, I was able to load the latest beta. I'm guessing that fully wiping the OS eliminated the ability for the BB to indicate that I am an active subscriber to the service.

Can't use DM to upgrade as RIM coded to block it.

App loader is found here:

To those who can not update the OS because it says you do not have an active service plan. Try this

Unplug your USB cable
Pull the battery
Delete the vendor.xml
Start the loader.exe
Plug in the USB cable and battery, in that order.

The loader should detect the Blackberry very quickly and allow you to load OS5 regardless of whether or not you have an active data plan.

Hello - welcome to BB Forums.

That does NOT work if you do not have a BlackBerry Data Plan.

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!

My problem: I have an older Blackberry Curve 8330. I got it when it first came out. The most recent version I have on this phone was 4.5.x and honestly after using newer Blackberries I just started hating my version! Today I said screw it I'm gonna update this b*tch! So after 5 hours of non stop searching, video tutorial watching, reading, installing and uninstalling... I thought it was hopeless. So I am going to explain.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING DESKTOP MANAGER 5.0 NOT 6.0!

I erased the Vendor.alx file... even tried erasing the vendorID files... and NOTHING! I downloaded multiple O/S versions... so I know there's no problem with the O/S files.

Every time I'd use the Desktop Manager it told me I needed to be an active subscriber. Everytime I used loader.exe it didn't show any changes. All it showed me is the files I already have on my blackberry.

When I ran into this post. I just said screw it I'm gonna wipe this thing and see if that would work. And it did.

So chances are if you are not currently connected to an active network, have an older version of the 8330, and are facing the same problems as me... Perhaps it would work for you too!

Hope this helps you. I am looking at my 8330 with Version 5.0 O/S.

[I downloaded the O/S from Crackberry.com]
