Platform version is different than application version and is differnt than Release version. 3 different version numbers referring to different things. We commonly refer to OS's by their Application Version.

Just did.. Removed the AT&T themes, any third party themes I had except my nifty Mac OS X looking one. The sample video, wall papers, PTT etc.. Only things I couldnt get rid of are the Dimension themes (I replied about it in the memory optimizing thread actually hehe)..

Only third party apps installed are Google Maps, Docs to Go, and Sudoku.

Still 12MB free. I seem to remember when I first got it having around 18-19 free right out of the box with just the default AT&T stuff on it..
Only thing I can think of is maybe its my mail box or text messages taking up all that space. I do have a few MB of pictures on it. Ill get those off and onto my Desktop and see if that makes any difference..

Quick question about email if anyone knows...
I use my BB with my regular imap email account. When I delete an individual email I get the option of either just on the handheld or handheld and server..
If I go to the top of my mailbox on the BB and use the 'Delete prior' option, will that wipe everything off the server or just the BB??
Ive been afraid to move past the 'Delete all prior items?' confirmation just in case..

"Delete Prior" will delete only from handheld, if I recall correctly.

Get those pics off of device memory and onto a memory card. Also, you can check your database sizes by going to Options >Status >Hit menu key and select "database sizes." You can see what else is eating memory as far as data goes.

Oh durrr. I forgot I can go check database sizes! I do have a ton of text messages on here too that I imagine arent exactly space saving..

I keep telling myself to go get an SD card but just havent yet hehe.
I REALLY want one now that I can use the video cam!!

Looks like theres a whole megabyte just between both Messages and MMS Messages to free up. SMS is about 500k or so.
Theres a database called Content Store thats 11MB.. Whats in that my pics and ringtones?
Total database sizes are 13MB.. So yeah theres my extra memory..

Although just a few mins ago I went outside for a smoke break, decided to pull the battery and restart again.. Came back up at 12MB.. Now just a few mins later its at 11..

Content Store = Pics & Ringtones, etc. That's your space hog.

Default Just realized new issue

Ever since I loaded 4.5.0.44 I am not getting a sync of outbound messages from Outlook. Meaning when I send from the BB I get a copy in my Outlook outbox, but when I send from Outlook I stopped getting the messages in my sent list on the BB. I am on BES. The only odd thing that happened was during the load I got an error that the backup failed, but I did a restore and everything ok.

I always follow John's memory approach, deleting PTT, Help, and this time I deleted Quincy.

Any ideas?

Instead of "deleting Quincy" you can remove the entire pack of RIM Internal Tools by going to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs and just uninstall RIM Internal Tools.

Not sure about the mail issue.

Thanks for that since if I have to start over that's an easier way!

More on the email thing....on the BB under email>options>settings>folder redirection, the sent items folder is not checked, and it wont let me select it!

I got an email from YouMail support, stating that at this time only ATT allows access to the voicemail icon (MWI) feature. So the OS upgrades aren't going to affect that for the other carriers unless they decide to change this policy. They also said that if T-mobile changed the policy they would send notification via email to their T-mobile users.

JC - I found another neato thing while cleaning up memory yesterday..

If you open up Media, and use the menu key and select Options...
I had that entry for Device Memory Limit set to 12MB.
I moved it up to 15 and it went up to 15 after a battery pull.
Dropped all my pics to my desktop yesterday, Im back up to 19 now..

So if anybodys device is getting stuck at either 5 or 12MB all the time and you think you should have more available, check the Media Options, I think by default its set to 5 but I cant remember cause it was a month or so ago I first changed it..

I'm satisfied with 4.5 working great so far, It now has an awesome browser so i don't have to scroll through every line of text, video camera, voice memos, now reads up to 8GB micro SD cards, (previous 4.2OS would not >( ) haha but now it does, media playback is fine still, adds an equalizer from what i understand, basically i'm happy, runs the same or better, and everything looks a bit classier haha

Cheers

Default -newbie question ...

just to know what about the language. I don't mind if the device language is english but for me is important to use local characters, as accents, ñ, etc. Is it possible after this english-assian languages upgrade?

thanks from a newbie on bb.

Why are you bringing this up in an old outdated OS thread?
