Can those of you who already own an AT&T 9700 comment on the build quality of your new Bold? Any creaks? Keyboard shift?

I ask only those of you that own a AT&T 9700 to comment, as in the case of the 8900 I've noticed build quality differences between T-Mobile and AT&T...go figure. Thanks for your comments!!!!

The 9700 makes the 8900 feel like a fisher price toy.
The build quality and overall design is impeccable.
IMO, it's clearly the best device RIM has released to date.

Talk about overexageration! It is built OK. If the Iphone is a 10/10, then the 9700 is 6.5.

It's light plastic all round and the lightness adds to the plastic feeling. There are no apparent issues as evenrything feels solid and firm in place but is isn't like a 'tank'.

the new bold is a heavy phone, its only 10 grams lighter than an iphone. compared to the 8900 which 20g lighter.

but the phone definitely feels like the very sturdy. i am impressed

Got mines today and loving it. Overall design is nice and sturdy but if you squeeze the phone " Charcoal Bezel " by the talk and send keys you can hear the creak even maybe making contact with the " P " and " Q " keys.

I don't mind this at all as it has more powerful and packed up nicely, doing great with the keyboard on my first days use.

Kudos to RIM for this release, " Flagship " BOLD 9700.

Just got home not long ago from picking up 2 new 9700 Onyx's from AT&T. Got a pretty good deal on them. I've been bugging my salesman about the phone for over a few months now. He saved me two and as he was finishing up with my sale my sister and Brother in law came in and picked up the last two in the store. He was saving 4 of them for us.

I'm impressed. I upgraded from a 9000 and I'm happy with the quality of the phone quality seems the same if not better than my 9000 and my wife loves hers as an upgrade from the 8330. She's really going to love the 3g browsing. Overall I think this will probably be the best phone I've owned and I was in love my my 9000 when I got it.

Sorry Blackberry buddies! I have to say it's simply just ok, nothing insane as far as build quality goes. I have had 2 so far, and both had developed creaks and shifts in the body of the phone. The chrome sides on both started to get squeaky, and had movement after only just 2 days. Listen these are mass produced, so flaws are part of the game. However, I feel RIM could have done better. I like my phone to have no movement at all, like my iPhone, or better yet my Original Bold. The 9700 is similar in build to the original 8800. Chrome sides will get loose, and stay loose.

I'm being honest when I say this device is ok! No huge leaps and bounds here. I prefer my 8900 to the 9700. If RIM wants to understand build quality, hire someone from Nokia, my N95 feels like I just took it out of the box, and it's a few years old. So to answer your question, your taking a 50/50 chance when buying one. It'll either feel great, or be a rattle box. Sorry when I spend my money, i'd like to feel I'm getting 100% what I'm paying for.

This is only my 2 cents, I still think RIM has a good pruduct. I just think like everyother company in the world, u have to evolve and bring better stuff and MATERIAL to the table!

I love mine, got it today. I am thankful to AT&T that they decided to knock off 100 bucks. Firstly, when it was only avail. to business customers it was 299, I am glad I didn't order it online. I didn't want to wait for it to come as well. But I love it. I can't get google Sync to work for some reason. Not that its a biggie.
P. S. - iPhone lovers I don't think blackberryforums.com is a good place to express your feelings regarding anything.

Totally agree with this. Mine has a squeaky rail on the left side like the bad old 8310s... I know better by now to get too crazy about it though, bc if I take it back the next one will have some other minor defect. Its the way of the world with RIM, unfortunately... The 8900 was the best yet, and I had to put tape under the battery door to stop the rattles.

Having said that, I'm happy with the device overall. 3g is great, the keyboard is great, and I like 5.0.

If iphones multitasked, I'd be in. It's the only device that has the kind of build quality I want in a device. They were onto something with the lack of battery doors...

I can only laugh when people are so excited that they cannot see things objectively...until the 'real' post-purchase evaluation/remorse kicks in...when the novelty wears off and/or something else is announced.

RIM may need some help regarding build quality but the battery door comment doesn't make sense, the battery door is the sturdiest part of the 9700. It's super tight until you push down on that part, great design. I would never choose an unremoval battery, THAT in itself is a greater design flaw that a battery cover that creaks.

I'm using it since Nov 18th, love it, will never go back to trackball, have no issues, quality is superb, i just can't understand those guys who complaints and compares this phone with iPhone, totally different animals, and 9700's build quality is worth those money what we paid for it, if someone needs better quality phone then answer is Vertu $4,000.00 plus which all it does is only phone calls, but build quality...you can't really complaint
