Default Who Uses BB Messenger And Why?

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to figure out who really uses BB Messenger. Is it meant to be like a AIM or Yahoo Messenger, but more "exclusive" since it is BB people only?

Just trying to better understand..

Yes it is instant messaging between BB users. I use it. It's quick, and reliable, you can transfer files over it. It uses data, so no other fees, also no international fees as you can talk to anyone around the world with a BB. Cheaper than SMS that way, as well as no 160 character limit.

I second what jsconyers said. I for one have friends and family abroad, Europe mostly and it's a quick way to keep in touch .

My gf was in London and Spain for 16 days. She just got back tonight (Thank God) but that is how we stayed in touch throughout the day. I msg'd her on bb messenger constantly and it was nice not having to worry about fees. She was also able to send me pics of her trip that way. You can also leave voice notes on there as well. I think it's up to 15 seconds. Nice way to hear her voice for free ;)

I use it for transferring files, contacts (vcards), and other items. Voice note as a PTT style service. And you get delivery and READ confirmation on your messages. My only 2 wishes is that I could assign a soft key to voice notes so it could be MORE like PTT, and that we could eventually send larger files like video clips.

In the last few months I have actually found I have used it more than anything my iPwn and WinMo had/has to offer. Including MSN and Facecrack.

And I don't think it goes true a server, so it makes it safer and confidential.

I do. It's free to other BB users (PIN) from what I've heard. 'Nuff said.

Better security and lack of SMS limits (msg size & cost) is important to me.

I love the fact that I can chat with everyone I know with a BB on any carrier at anytime with it for free. I use it all the time!

yea totally- bbm is awesome. when i met my girlfriend i didnt have a phone (only my work BB with data/no voice) so the first month of our relationship was through bbm haha. it's better than sms for the above reasons but it also feels more like having a conversation vs just messaging. sorry if that doesnt make sense, i'm tired and delirious.

For many it's great because if they are on a BES, it isn't tracked. BBM is separate from other messages. So basically it's nice for them to use the phone without their company realizing they are using their company phone for personal use. (I would NEVER do this)

i love it too, besides the fact that it does come with the bb data package, you dont have to keep scrolling back to see the previous conversation. also love the fact you can send files over the bbm, i dont feel wow i have this and it makes me special or better its more of a convenience thing to me. plus if you dont have a text plan here you go its free then (or so i think).

Ummm... sorry to burst your bubble on this one... but BES admins can audit BlackBerry Messenger conversations.
It's not done the same way that PIN, SMS and Phone Logs are audited, but rather through scheduled emailing of the BBM conversation to an auditor email address designated by the IT Policy on the handheld.

The auditing feature is disabled as part of the Default IT Policy, but it can easily be turned on if your BES admin wishes.

Thumbs up

Me & My husband use it all day long!!
We have different schedules, so throughout the day we are constantly BBMing each other. It it great because we dont have to waste our texts that could get pricey with how we are.
Also, we know when the person has or hasnt recieved the message, or if it was even delivered to the phone. You can send pictures back and forth quickly.

I actually had three gens of Blackberry phones before I even tryed using the BBM, now I'm hooked!

This is good to know. How are Google Talk conversations handled/audited? In the same manner?

The Google Talk app/protocol can be allowed or disallowed, but the messages cannot be logged or audited.
