Default "Modded t-mobile 8100 for "Sleeper mode" helped solved muted ringer for now

Please Login to Remove!

I just simply modded the t-mobile 8100 case I got today by taping, with black electical tape, a small magnet I had lying around to the bottom back of the case. It then acts as a "sleeper case" or whatnot. i have heard other people having to put the phone in upside down which sucks ( I did that for like two hours and then figured this simple task out) It looks great because the electrical tape matches the back perfect and you cant see it from the front at all. The magnet I used was a small one from a magnetic door latch like the ones used on glass cabinet doors on enterainment stands. Had one lying around but its like $2 at a hardware store. Works even though its not in the case but on the back. I will use this atleast until the blackberry proper cases and skins are available. Just find a magnet that works and afix it to the lower back of the case with tape, glue, spit, hair gell, or whatever you got in your house.

Hard drive magnets work amazingly. Put one on the back of my 957 holster that I modded (extra pen spaces on the sides)...works great and the magnet is super powerful.

This raises an interesting question-is it possible to have a magnet that is too strong modded into the case? Is there potential to damage the handset in any way?

I guess I must be missing something, but when I started playing around with the idea of attaching a magnet, I found that you cannot unlock the phone unless you remove the magnet. How did you get around this?

I just bought a t-mo razor case that had a magnetic flap, bent the hell out of the bottom of it to push the 8100 higher up in the case so the magnet always activates sleep mode and it works perfectly....

OR, you could just put the blackberry into the case top-down and the magnet that holds the strap closed activates sleeper mode as designed...

I tried to get ahold of a nice powerful magnet, but all I could come up with is a couple of superstrong hardrive magnets....I pulled the case off my spare BB and left the magnet on a couple different chips for a couple minutes each, and then booted back up.

So not sure if a really powerful magnet would give you a 507 or not, but a harddrive magnet directly on the ram chips won't

Downside to putting the Pearl upside down in the T-Mobile case is that it puts the already hard to hear speaker even further away from your ear, and covered by leather.
