Default 16gb card with Sprint 8330: software question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I just bought a 16gb card (sandisk) and from what I understand, the blackberry is unable to recognize all 16 gigs of free space without a software upgrade. No big deal, so I go to the bb site and download 4.5.0.188. From what I understand, however, is that only software 4.5.0.81 and up will support 16gb cards.

My questions are these:
1. Stupid question, I know, but is 4.5.0.188 an earlier or later version than 4.5.0.81? I'm of the opinion that it is earlier, simply because my blackberry still only recognizes 8 gigs (7.4 if you want to be specific).

2. Since Sprint's software does not appear to be a late enough version (if I know my decimals correctly, .188 is smaller/earlier than .81), would I be able to download the correct software (4.5.0.81+) from an alternate carrier and still use my phone on the sprint network?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

Software compatabilty is based on the model, not the carrier...so, as long as you are downloading an OS upgrade for an 8330, it doesn't matter which carrier it is for.

So here's my problem now. I've download 4.5.0.97 software, but whenever I try to load it onto my blackberry (with desktop manager), it doesn't recognize it because it is still "4.5" software, which my device already contains.

From what I gather, the only way to upgrade is to wipe my device with JL_Cmder or CrackMem (btw, simply deleting vendor.xml file doesn't work). Is there any possible way to upgrade my software without wiping my blackberry completely? I just don't really want to take the time to delete everything, reload the OS, download my apps again, and then resync my music/address book just for 8 gigs. Plus I'm slightly doubtful that this software upgrade would actually allow me to access the other 8 gigs... Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, thank you ndub33 for your reply and your welcome

You should treat them as whole numbers instead of decimals, so 188 is a newer/came after version than 81. The decimal and numbers are used to distinguish between variants of a similar OS.

hmm okay. Any idea why my blackberry is still reading the card as 8 gigs?

It may be because I initially formatted my card as 8 gigs when I was running 4.3, and even though i reformatted with the 4.5 software, it still didn't format the whole 16 gigs?

It's possible but I'm not sure what the reason might be. Can't hurt if you reformat it again.
