Default short battery life

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched this forum for the problem i'm having, but I can't find any.

My wife and I both have a bb 8310. Mine has data plan (BES I think) from work. She only uses it as cell phone and PDA, no data plan. For some reason her BB battery life only last less than 1 day, while mine last 3-4 days with receiving about 50-60 emails a day. She talks about 10-15 mins a day max, about the same as mine. I swapped the batteries, the result are the same. So I can rule out that this is not a battery problem because her batter would last 3-4 days on my bb.

On her BB, I turned off blue tooth, turn off data, and follow other suggestions I found on this forum (dim the screen, auto shutdown screen, auto dim, etc).

I'm running out of ideas. Anyone? Thx.

I came across that faq. I upgraded both BB to to the latest firmware. Signal strength are good in the house, I do not know what's the signal coverage at her office. I do not think that is the problem since on weekend, the battery drain out at home.

Her bb does not have data plan, she does not have any applications running in the background. The only background application that is weird is blackberry browser, but I have no way to remove it.

GPS, bluetooth are off. Screen brighness is at 50%, auto dim is on, auto screen off is on (10 secs I think).

Any thoughts?

You cannot "close" the browser. It's a native BlackBerry program. But it shouldn't drain too much battery if she's not using it.

Do either of you put the device into standby mode when not using it?

Does your BlackBerry have a constant signal threwout the day or is it constantly looking for a signal?

We set auto on/off -- turn off at 11pm and turn on at 6am.

When in the house, the signal strength is pretty high on both BB (4-5 bars usually).

How about at work? I just ask because my signal is fine at home, but I work inside a Jail 90% of the time and my BB constantly battles for a signal, taking it's toll on the battery by the end of the day.

I was referring to standby mode which is a bit different from auto on/off. Whenever I'm not actively using my device, I put it into standby mode. It's sort of like a lock feature -- keyboard doesn't get any accidental presses and it helps to conserve some battery. It's similar to the Standby mode for a computer.

I dont know how much of a difference doing this will make for your battery levels, but I've always been told it helps. Plus I have my BB in my pocket a lot so I dont want any pocket dials.

Hmmm ... it is auto locked after 5 mins of inactivity.

Wirelessly posted

IIRC auto lock is like keypad lock. The device is still active because when you press anything on the keyboard the device turns on. Standby mode is different. You activate it by pressing the button on the top of the phone. There's a speaker icon. Press and hold it down until it says going into standby mode.

I do not use standby mode on both of our BB. I could give that a try,.

Default same here

I get lots of email and a few calls a day and I can say that I do well to get 2 days out of mine. I do leave it on all the time, and I normally only have about 1-2 bars at home. So mine is understandable.

Default Gps

Does it have GPS?... Have you tried switching it off?
I tried all the basics such as lowering the backlight. It really do help.
Also, try to keep your BB switched off when you sleep, and also I've tried this policy, don't charge the phone extensively.. this action will shorten you battery life gradually.

Actually you can't overcharge the phone. BB batteries have a smart chip to prevent overcharging. So once it's full, it wont be charging any more. In fact with our batteries you want to keep them topped off.

I have seen a definite battery savings by closing applications after you're finished with them. You can check if anything's open by pressing: options then switch application. If you have more than the 4 native apps showing close them. You'll see a difference.
