I had an 8320 that I had to replace with this 8900 a few months ago. Anyway, it started to randomly shut off out of the blue. It appears now that it was a battery issue... On to the 8900, I have just had my 2 month old 8900 shut down for the 3rd time in the last two days.

It has happened each time when browsing the net using the standard browser and connected via WiFi, scrolling a page and BOOM! Blank screen and a restart...

Anyone else having a random shutdown problem?

Cameron

Hold the Alt key down and type LGLG - this will open the log file.

Ever look at the log? Have you found it useful?

Are you using a media card? If so, take it out and see how the phone behaves

Also, what operating system version are you using? My 8900 seemed to do this more often on me while using 4.6.1.250, so I went back to T-Mobile's 4.6.1.231 and haven't had it happen since.

Actually it is good to think that it is an OS issue rather than the battery.

I am using .250 if it happens again I will try a downgrade to .231.

Not sure if this is related but I woke up this morning and my blackberry was shut off. Turns out it was a due to a dead battery.

Thing is I just got my phone 2 days ago. The first time I charged the battery was overnight. I used it all day weds and it was fine. But before I went to bed yesterday I still had a good amount of battery left (I think only one bar was gone) and this morning it was completely dead.

Now I did have wifi on but that was also the case yesterday and the battery usage seemed fine.

Any suggestions why it would do this? Is it a faulty battery or phone? What are work arounds / test I can do to isolate this problem?

Thanks

Sounds as though you may have had some program running or something. What OS version are you running, and do you leave any programs running in the background?

I dont think I have any programs running in the background. How can you check just in case? The only thing I know is wifi and bluetooth are on but cant imagine those draining a new battery like that.

Im currently using OS 4.6.1.231

Thanks!

Bluetooth can drain the battery if nothing is connected, but I don't know if it will drain it that much. I turn it off when not in use, though.

To check what program you have running you can press and hold the BlackBerry key, which will bring up the Application Switcher. There will be at least 5 programs that always show, which are the Browser, Phone, Messages, Home Screen and BlackBerry Messenger (if installed).

Bluetooth will do it. It keeps trying to connect and uses battery. I shut off my BT when I'm not using it.

Bluetooth doesn't use batteries like that. I have BT on all the time and get 72 hours of use plus.
